According to Alan Nixon (I know) our chief scout has been sacked after showing the owners a list of targets (players) for next season. He also mentions Richard Hill from Eastleigh coming in some capacity.
Edit. SEB by a minute but at least I spelt chief right
There have been some successes. Not many, but some. The ones we did identify we couldn't keep, for one reason or t'ther.
I would say our average is about one stand-out player every 2/3 years...Which isn't very good.
I bloody hope soStockdale next surely.
We did'nt have trouble recruiting back in the old days. We were a Division two side and recruiting Clough, Crossan, Mulhall and herd in such a short time. I believe we nicked one of those signings on the train staion maybe it was Clough I cant remember which one but surely someone will know
I CAN'T REMEMBER THATBrian Clough was on a cruise when Alan Brown agreed a fee with the Boro but due back not long after. Brown then drove to Southampton and he was waiting for Brian Clough when he came off the ship.
...and Cloughie copied Alan Brown's personal touch technique on many many occasions.Brian Clough was on a cruise when Alan Brown agreed a fee with the Boro but due back not long after. Brown then drove to Southampton and he was waiting for Brian Clough when he came off the ship.

Aye... I knew about the Keegan offer from my time ...There was. We had a full-time scout in Scotland, Tom Rutherford, and in Ireland, Tommy Coulter. George Smith down south and Alf Young in Huddersfield. All were full-time and most had been part of Charlie's team for many years, including his time at Burnley in the late 50s. In addition we had several local scouts and an excellent relationship with local schools. When we were promoted in 1964 Alan Brown sent Charlie to scout all the opponents personally in the 2 weeks before we played them. I have seen Charlie's report on Kevin Keegan when he was at Scunthorpe. We offered £25000 and could not afford anymore. Shankly offered £30000.
We had a chief scout???
60 million pounds there, how much to run the academy over that time?I'd say 1 every 5 - Henderson, Whaghorn, Pickford.

Doubt he’d be at Eastleigh if he didThe Don wasting no time in purging the architects of our downfall. Hopefully this fella from Eastleigh knows his onions
The figures maybe slightly out but it goes to show that investing in the academy and keeping it going is paramount10 million to set up and 1.5 million a year to run so 32.5 million. Not sure about the 60 million figure - 30 million for Pickford 15 million for Henderson and 5 million for Waghorn so profit of 17.5 million.
