Like I said 8 our the 11 that started yesterday were regulars last season, that tells you everything he is up against, he’s not a god but he’s a fantastic manager, of the current premier league managers only Pep and Mourinho have achieved and won more than him. I think Sunderland fans are the only set of supporters in the country who don’t rate him as a manager.

Don't generalise so much, I think he's a good manager that's done a good job

It's next to the Hockling on Sir Berb bit.......that's been wiped as well? 6 in a row gone yet?.........Google eh?

The only mention i can find of spitting on Bobby Robson is in an article by the well known mag hater Mick Dennis, and this forum.
What I would say in regards to that, if it did happen, is that it is one idiot, not representative of the entire fan base. In the same way as that lad doing monkey gestures towards Lukaku doesn't make the whole Sunderland fanbase a bunch of racists. Neither did the whole Sunderland fan base racially abuse Darren Bent's mother, or swill Peter Reid. I'm able to detach the behaviour of the individual from the collective. The actions of one person doesn't define the behaviour of tens of thousands.

If Arsenal, ManUtd or Chelsea had decided to actually turn up and put in a bit of effort against them, then they would have ended the season just above the relegation zone.

3 or 4 points this season makes a huge difference to the final position and this is papering over a few cracks. That squad is no where near as good as the squad that Rafa took down, and he spent a few bob in the process of making it worse.
Just goes to prove making points predictions is pointless.
I mean Hfield getting a draw at Chelsea man ffs.

If Allerdyce, Pardew, McClaren etc, etc had finished tenth scoring 39 goals in 38 games (they the entertainers yer knaa) and had a minus goal difference of 8 playing bland defensive football they'ed be hounded out of the toon.
for 75% of the season they have been utter shite and 2 small runs saved them and yes the football was way worse than BSAs and pardews, maybe not mclarens though, some of the games away to the top 6 rafa's tactics were embarasing, they didnt get a point away at all top 8 clubs,i never expected them to go down but they will struggle again next season, iam sort of pleased perez finished well as i hope he is their main striker next season,as i do not rate him,has only scored late in the season against teams on holiday, chelsea were embarassing yesterday, they will sell mitrovic and gayle, joselu is shite but watch rafa keep him cos he's spanish, couldnt see them getting their 5 million back for him

Fook me.......The Mags taking the high ground on racist abuse? You're new eh? Who was manager before the Fat Spaneesh Bus Driver?

I hate to start a thread about them but I think I've missed something.Im reading and hearing more and more about their successful season, what have they won or what competition have they qualified for? I'm thinking their success is in keeping Benitez there for another season that's what they deem to be success, how else can you explain a mid table finish for a club without a title for over 90 years and the cup for over 60 years.Delusional lambs to the slaughter each year, at least we know we are shit on and off the pitch.
Because we didn't just get relegated to League 1?

If we finished tenth in the Prem it would be classed as a successful season, too. Just ask Bruce.
they finnished 3rd in the table of also rans,33 points and a good goal diff would of been safety this season, soon someone will stop up with 28/29/30 points,if chelsea and arsenal had gotten their fingers out it could of been this season

Daft question but IF Rafa had joined us instead of Moyes, would we have stayed up ?
Purely hypothetical, but my opinion is that he would have but only just.
Ok, he's boss of the scum, but the reality is that he IS a good manager with plenty of trophies behind him(can't be many in Europe that have bettered him) and yes of course, plenty of money spent.
Hes not the second coming, and he is over hyped, but he is a good manager tho I still can't believe he didn't save them from relegation when he had 9-10 games whereas Dick had 7.

I'm not sure that you've understood my post. There's no high ground to take with regards to racist abuse. It's wrong. I'm merely pointing out that the actions of one or two knackers don't define everybody.

Big Sam played better football and had a better win % - 33 v 31 yet he was hounded out.

Well that's a different argument altogether. Booing the team when not playing well is stupid and I don't see the point of it.
But to use the actions of one individual 35 years ago as a sterotype for all Newcastle fans is just stupid. That's if it even happened.

That's right love it never happened........Don't the teachers take their Fookin pherns off them?

Like I said, the only mention I can find of it is in a Mick Dennis article and on this board. That makes me highly doubtful. If you have any other evidence of this incident from the early 80s, I'm willing to look at it.

Still waiting for those quotes from Shepherd as well.

Back to the investment borefest. Net spend is a lot more important figure than simply looking at expenditure on players. If your squad is depleted to the tune of £100m worth of talent and replaced with £80m worth of talent, simple logic would determine that the squad has regressed. Therefore, to turn a profit on transfers and improve league position significantly, it shows that the manager is doing a terrific job with a squad that should have less ability.

What a load of bollocks.

Elaborate.
It's all hypothetical of course but let's say you have a kid come through the ranks (cost you zero) and he turns out to be a world beater and you sell him for lets say £75m then spend £70m on three really good players then your squad could have been improved and you'd still have cash left over.

This is what happened with Sisserker and Wijnaldum you bought low sold high then reinvested the rest (some on fee's the rest will have covered loss of income from being in the champo).

So net spend is important (over a sustained period) but taking one or two seasons in isolation not so much.
