Haway man, you obviously weren't around at the time, I was and don't need to check.

You're just Googling names of clubs without any idea of the quality of the teams they put out.

Mind you, it's just as well you didn't beat Barcelona in the final
How many games did you go to?

On the contrary. I went to every round at home as well as rangers away, I queued for hours for tickets for the final on a Sunday morning.

I'm shocked at that, I thought it was just daft Mag kids who spent time on here.

Me and my mate queued all night Saturday to get our dad's tickets

I didn't go to any, just watched Tyne Tees Television, etc.
So you really have no idea of the quality of the teams they put out? Just a few minutes of grainy black and white TV?

I'm a NE football supporter and used to take a great deal of interest in all the clubs, less after all the John Hall 'Geordie Nation' stupidity which increased the antipathy between the two clubs. I have match going Mag family and we'd always talk about each others clubs. As I've always been a voracious reader I'd buy the local papers and read every word of the football pages. Even when I left the area we'd have the papers sent down including the Sunday Post. Even though it was a Scottish paper the football coverage was always too class, much better than the Chronicle. I even had the TV ariel tuned into Tyne Tees until the point Sky came along :D

You don’t need to explain yourself to these daft old goats.

Two men in their 60’s sitting posting away on a Sunderlamd forum. I find that astounding, it’s rather cringeworthy.

Just under 250 posts in five and a half years, yeah i'm all over it.
You’ve certainly been “all over it” the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Hang on. Weren't you lot banging on about beating Man U, Chelsea etc on your way to the league cup final? I don't think the sides they put out were that strong either.

I didn't say they were.

We beat Notts County and Reading in 73 as well, not the sternest opponents.

But none of those teams were there on a coin toss or because their opponents couldn't be arsed to show up for the match

If you ever reach my age and i'm not 60,you have to take your fun in whatever way you can and at the minute , this is it.Also it gives a real meaning to Newcastle til i die. By the way last year as you can see from my avatar, i played in the Pavel cup with a midfield that read as Gazza, Beardsley and me, what will you be doing in your 50's, so not so much of the old goat please..

Of course I’ll reach your age, if you class sitting on this forum as fun then I fuckin pity your sad life.

I also never said you were 60. Please don’t confuse yourself.

Then why do you reside here, if it's not fun?
Oh and yes I obviously have a sad life, posting on the same forum as you, the irony is lost on you.

Aye my granny used to get the Sunday Post and the footy coverage was good.
Not as good as all those outraged letters to the editor by pensioners who always included the line "I'm a pensioner" amongst their outrage.
You must have been a teenager or younger back then.
So, given this, and the fact that you've praised Newcastle support today, where did all the Mag hatred come from?

The nighmare wait before they opened the ticket office and the crowd surging all day, before finally getting your hands on a ticket for a final, they were the days.

Got squashed to fuck by a police horse at the Leazes turnstiles.
Resisted the urge to punch the lights out of it though.

There's no hatred whatsoever.

I just find Mags who post on here a little sad and weird.

Nothing original, witty or informative is said, it's just the same old obvious tripe trotted out time and again.

The Sunderland posters I enjoy reading take a few risks and honestly speak their mind whereas the Mags play it safe with the same old forum standards and 'jokes'. The way you'll automatically back each other up and respond to any Newcastle issue is predictable to the point of embarrassment.

I really can't see what you get out of it and I certainly get nothing.

Newcastle are quite happy to use the Texaco Cup in their honours list, they can hardly leave it out can they, people would wonder why there was a blank page

It was an interesting competition the year Newcastle won it as it happens.

The mighty Ujpest Dozsa made it to the final after beating European giants Goztepe in the semi-final, they'd 'qualified' when their opponents didn't turn up

Oh, and Ujpest had 'won' in the first round when their opponents didn't turn up

My money had been on the famous Academia outfit that year but they went out on the toss of a coin

As it was in the European Cup that year......six Eastern European teams withdrew from the tournament in protest at being drawn against each other, meaning both Milan and Benfica had byes in the 2nd round. The competition also contained some of the absolute powerhouses of world football such as Valur, Floriana, Jeunesse Esch, Reipas Lahti and Spartak Trnava, as well as Glentoran and Waterford. Not quite the Champions League.

There's no hatred whatsoever.

Said without a hint of irony.

Put the sad fuckers on ignore, if everyone done that then no-one would reply to them and hopefully they would soon piss off
