County Championship 2018

I agree with this and as I said I haven't nothing against any of these lads and even if they leave I'll probably support whatever they do. I suppose my quibble is around the term 'local' which I interpret as from the North East region and I'd like to see more or at least a healthy proportion of lads from here. And of course Durham Cricket are working for just that. I'm not complaining just noting a fact.

NB I think Richardson came to us from Nottingham Uni which puts him in the same category as Smith who came from Durham Uni. and Steel who also came from Durham I think.

dunno, I think anyone coming from durham uni is fineand still shows our academy are doing a great job spotting local talent.

to be honest the lads from further afield show up other academies rather than do us discredit. someone mentioned carse, I'm sure he was suggested by Jennings wasn't he? i forget now exactly but some of these lads from further afield are predictable avenues of exploration, like the signing of calum macleod after Collingwood had worked with the scotch team, albeit that one didn't work out so well [what a catch mind]

Carse was playing for Burnmoor and Cook spotted him ... it may be that his gig with Burnmoor was set up by Jenning and/or he tipped Cook off about him, which sounds plausible.

Jennings was brought over by his dad for a cricket beauty show thing at Northants I believe, and Durham picked him up from there.

I really have no axe to grind with these players nor with Durham picking them up - I wish we could get a few more from Hetton/Bishop/Consett even Newcassel.

Carse was the overseas pro at Eppleton or Burnmoor when Durham first saw him play. He had already played for his provincal side in South Africa. He knew his chances where limited in South Africa because of the quota system and took his chance with Durham when they offered him the chance.
There are probably 50 other South Africans on the books at counties here on similar circumstances. You can't blame them but they are not products of the youth systems in this country.

only a few years back that we had about 9 out of our first 11 with north east, obviously we lost a lot of locality with borthwick, rocky, bunny leaving etc

Surrey fail to avoid the follow on at Old Trafford so Lancashire will try and put pressure on them to claim a victory.

About the only game with any real excitement due to the weather.

Managed to see it out to a draw. A bit disappointing to be hanging on given we had them 30-3 in good conditions, but starting the season against Lancs and Hampshite and coming away unbeaten is a very solid return.

Just a shame we have the stupid pyjama staff starting in the not too distant future.

Never mind it will get money through the door to get some more players!!

A duck for SB in the second innings but he seems to have got off to a good start. Might silence his critics ;)

Yeah, forget about the 7 academy players we've used in each of the last two games, son...

His bowling has completely gone to pot unfortunately, but aye, had a decent start to the summer with the bat. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong!

As expected our batting problems STILL have not been addressed despite all the talk and bluster from Gale, Moxon and numerous players over the winter.

I personally think they've had long enough now to get it right, never agreed with Gale getting the coach's job anyway mind, and if cricket was like football I'd be calling for their heads. But coaches don't tend to get sacked mid season in cricket so we'll have to wait for relegation at the end of the season before, surely, deciding enough is enough.

Extra money always handy for any club

A thread with numbers from Somerset live view streaming.

interesting.

Excellent news on the number of people who have accessed it. I watched quite a bit of The Somerset v Yorkshire game and the Lancs v Surrey in the last round of championship matches. The fact that they have got the live stream in sync with the BBC commentary really makes it worth while.
Time the rest of the counties got their arses in gear and sorted it out. Perhaps if they spent more time on avenues of spreading the county game like this instead of scouring the world for cricketers with EU passports then the domestic game would be in a healthier position.

Yea. Did you note they thought it might be possible to show replay clips of major incidents such as the fall of wickets.
