We have an electric built-in hob. One of the four plates has started glowing red when we use it and then the electric trips out. Any idea what's causing it? Is it fixable?

Smart-arse comments welcome.

Electricians dont fix appliances. We put the power in for them to run. You need an appliance repair man.

Element is probley goosed btw. If it was an oven its a piece of piss, hob may be a bit tricky.

Like @yamar1 said- sounds like it’s fucked, element will have shorted to earth.
Either-
a) fuck about with it, identifying spare and ordering then replacing (no idea of price of replacement part mind), and chance another ring going in the near future, or
b) get new hob, and at least a year guarantee with it gratis, thus freeing your spare time and effort

9/10 the element is knackered. Replacing it should be easy enough. There is usually a support page on the manufacturers website with contact details etc.
