Like talking to my kids this is, when they were 3.

Fuck it you all win, we are all obsessed, you all are class.
Well done.

would a journalist ever bring themselves to write this about newcaslte fans, especially relating to a game in which you were relegated:

The North East does have a success story. It is about the devotion and loyalty of their football fans in the face of such failure”.

Tony Hardisty, Sunday Express

A cameo of breathtaking emotion encapsulated Sunderland’s season just minutes after the final curtain had fallen on their brief first division sojourn. Against a vivid red and white backdrop two teenage boys proudly bedecked in the sky blue of Manchester City stood weeping unashamedly in the main stand. The tears that spilled down their young faces were an emotional tribute to the legions of vociferous Sunderland fans who turned Maine Road into a theatre of passion”.

Brian McNally, The Journal

If points were awarded for class on the terraces instead of on the pitch Sunderland would have few worries about first division survival. Sadly they are not and despite the presence of the most numerous, boisterous and insanely optimistic travelling support in the league the Wearsiders will return to the second division whence they came.

But even in bidding farewell to the first division the Sunderland fans could not resist one more rousing chorus of “by far the greatest team the world has ever seen” in flagrant disregard of the empirical evidence. The first division can only be the poorer for lack of such traditional support”

Paul Wilson, The Observer

would they fuck. newcastle fans have embarrassed themselves time and time again in all sorts of weird and wacky ways, including in the manifestation of their hatred and obsession of sunderland. yes we dont like newcaslte, yes we enjoy it when misfortune or failure falls upon them, but no, we are not the same

Since you took the time to post that with quotes etc I will reply, as you deserve a reply. I was just going to leavr this thread.

Ok I could go get quote after quote about how Newcastle fans are the greatest thing since sliced bread. All wrote by journalists but I can't be chewed on to be honest. As fans we are exactly the same, some morons but mainly all working class average joes.
You can think you are better class all you want but I know it aint true.

Anyway i replied because you put the effort in but I wont reply anymore in this thread. Tis pointless.

Read that back, Dick.

I pretty much agree with you. When I read his post I thought there'll be loads of articles about Newcastle away when journalists wrote the same. There are two on You Tube: Newcastle at Liverpool around 1985 and Newcastle at Totttenham cup match 1987.

And, there were quite a few at that Man City match who didn't really go all season - just a jolly. There were better away days that season, such as Sheffield United away.

They turned up at SAFC v Gillingham in 87.
Their only thoughts in 91 when they were playing Hull was SAFC
They brought Lets all laugh at sunderland out after the 19 points season
They brought Lets all laugh at Sunderland 2 out after the 15 points season
They're currently wanking themselves into a coma on social media over our impending relegation.

The mackems flew a plane :cry:

Don’t forget their ‘Manchester Day’ in 2014!

I hate them fuckers but I’d never be that arsed to organise a party to celebrate them potentially losing a game.

There wasn't another match like it that season, it all went down to that one game ...... Sheff Utd was before Christmas.

Sheffield United was before Christmas but you didn't have the whole day trippers and fancy dress scenario. And, in my opinion the atmosphere was better at Sheffield United - the best away all season for me.

Not how I remember that game at all tbh.

I get what you are saying but it was a meaningless game and yours was a possible relegation game. I get why we had an eye on your game. I may have been there, I started going when ardiles was in charge, but I don’t recall to be honest, didnt attend every game only when my mates dad got the free tickets.

We both depend on each other for a little bit of joy in our fruitless clubs lol. Your misery is our happiness and vice versa. It's not always the case but its a big part.

FTM

Free Ticket Mags

I was at both of those two NUFC games. The first bunking off school and travelling down in a car from Newcastle with my brother and two Liverpool fans. From Northumberland too, think they had season tickets. Bars weren’t open all day I remember but it was no problem. Eye-opening day and the first time I’d heard the word ‘Munichs’. Anyhow, it was great.

Fast to Spurs away, travelled down from
Norwich as was studying there, met the lads at Kings Cross for drink, and then on to Seven Sisters. Very rough, crushes were mental in the ground, thankfully was upstairs in the old away end. Loads of battling before and after.

Ended up on the Tennant Super on the National Express back to Norwich.

Good support both days I’m pleased to report. Actually, f***ing brilliant support.
