Seems quite sensible on that and decent FC experience. ANything is an improvement on Whitaker, Newell & Fraser

Being sensible doesn't really make you qualified like

He is a bit of a tit like, and I don't think he watches any county cricket

Was hoping if they went down that route it would be someone who knows what it takes to play international cricket, this bloke doesn't

Sensible is linked with knowing what he is talking about. Do you have to have played international cricket to be able to spot a good cricketer?

Yeah I do actually, or at least have a big involvement in the past.

He isn't sensible, he is a very disliked bloke who is up his own arse, was only last year he plagiarised an article from the economist and tried to pass it off as his own.

Strange appointment for me

Andy Flower was in the frame, and he would have been perfect for me, our most successful ever coach, he knows what it is needed in an international cricketer, the selection was excellent when he was in charge

Not sure how you go from him toEd Smith

I find this difficult to give much of a toss about this.
Reckon the selector needs three things ... a good knowledge of cricket, able to talk to local county coaches and senior pro's (such as Colly) and a willingness to drive thousands of miles per year.

Other than that.

hitaker stepped down as the national selector last month after Andrew Strauss, the director of England cricket, decided to revamp the selection process. He will introduce a network of about 12 scouts who will report to Smith and a new full-time independent selector, to be appointed personally by Smith. Trevor Bayliss, the England head coach, will remain as the third member of the selection panel

I like the idea of scouts reporting in to Smith. Independent scouting on County Cricket talent rather than one selector, 2 lads with ties to counties and an Aussie who's never seen a county cricket match

he Times understands that Newell was one of six candidates interviewed for the role along with Andy Flower, the Lions head coach, and the former England players Mike Selvey and Derek Pringle. Fraser and Newell will remain in place for the first months of the season as part of a handover to the new panel

Mike f***ing Selvey :lol::lol:

Will fit in perfectly alongside Strauss. They are basically the same person. Apart from Strauss scored runs for England and hasn’t been done for plagiarism
