Takeover talks not going great

Advocaat has favoured the 4-3-3 in his recent managerial career and was always planning to deploy Sunderland in that set-up during his first season in charge. But he denied that Sunderland’s summer signings were made to purely fit into that system. “No, we just signed players who were available,” he said.

None of that is wrong and I agree I guess

But I just thing it’s an easy excuse for them

I really think a manager should be held to account by the executives for every signing. Why do you need him, prove to me he’s better than what we have etc

They are ultimately responsible, if they aren’t then Short is blameless on that theory

Precisely. It's why a Director of Football sort of approach actually works if done properly. They are part of a committee to identify and discuss what players should be targeted and what they are going to add to a squad.

We just seem to search for whoever we can get then give them a stupidly good contract which doesn't incentivise them in the long term.

The Cattermole contract was a disgrace and showed that there was zero planning or joined up thinking at the club.

Bain claimed these mistakea wouldn't be repeated then we go and give a FOUR year contract to a keeper that nobody else wanted last summer.

Correction: Larry wanted that keeper. Nobody else did, mind. I recall that's why many were screaming for us to sign Ruiter even though he was pretty much an unknown quantity. At least when Ruiter played (however badly) it was one less game to blame Steele for his cockups.

Myth. There is absolutely no evidence of a successful DoF at SAFC so zero evidence of it actually working here.

Erm, I didn't say it had worked here.

Despite the English media peddling shite for years that it doesn't work because they were all old school and believed a single manager could do everything they were wrong. And the likes of Man City, Chelsea etc have proven it so.

SAFC in the mean time have just fucked up any apparent method they have tried. Dishing out stupid contracts left right and centre. Christ even Danny Graham was desperate to jump ship from Swansea a month ahead of a cup final because of how stupid a contract we were offering him.

I agree with that but not the cattermole thing, he is one of the last people to blame, one of the few signings in the last 10 years which worked out Ok

Whatever people’s opinions on his skill levels are I doubt anyone can accuse him of hiding on the pitch. He always gives it 100% Just sometimes (quite a lot in the past couple of seasons) he falls short in the quality department.

Yeah I agree, and I am not sure why he gets singled out when we have signed so many players over the years for big money and big wages who don't give a shit in the slightest. He is past his best, but even in last few games he has still been one of our better players. Needs someone like McNair alongside him mind

I think he will go in the summer, but if he was around it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Sick of the 50 Cattermole n JOS threads every day by jokers on here, people just pick on them as they have been here the longest.

Surely any serious consortium would wait until we are officially relegated. It’s got to have a massive impact on negotiations
Plus it won’t have happened on their “”watch”

I heard he was considering going back to college with the aim of being a PE teacher eventually

Hasn’t been done properly here though.

Can't see it having that much difference. We're still in debt, we're still not in the prem with all the money.
