Except the standard of our team judging by his ‘predictions’

Odd that he is so versed in the historic when he isn’t anywhere near to even getting the current correct.

Yes of course there was.

Wow, 2 true giants of the game and totally respected .... you must have been so proud.
Like I say that's from memory and it was a long time ago. I'm sure you will be busy doing some research and will let me know if I am wrong, Doubt I will hear from you if i am right though and to be fair I'm not bothered either way. I find all the waffle people sprout over historical attendances pretty tedious, my opinion has been and is that both clubs are very well supported and I couldn't care less if a Sunderland fan has a stat that shows we once had a gate of 3k or vice versa. I also find it tedious when Newcastle fans waffle about FA cups won not long after WW2 and when Sunderland fans waffle on about league titles won back in the days when the US 7th Cavalry were slaughtering the Sioux Indians.
I tend to live in modern times and only really concern myself with football matches that happened during my lifetime.

On your second point I quite enjoy listening to people lavish praise on my club no matter who they are, they don't need to be giants of the game.
If you would like to give us and Rafa a little praise for securing premier league status with 5 games to go I'll enjoy that as well.

We had just under 8,000 when we played Norwich i remember, drew 2-2, we were already relegated, then we played Millwall 1st away game next season and took loads down there, anyway as for Arsenal being the worst Arsenal side for ages, aren't they going to win a European Trophy?

Bad times, looked like we were on our way to tier 3, large debts and going out of business was a real possibility at the time. It's a long time ago but if i remember correctly those years so a load of stay away protests with the fans trying to force Gordon MCKeag out.
Kind of not to dissimilar position to what you find yourselves in at the moment.

Both of our clubs are big clubs and well supported if you ask me.

Yes was era of sack the board, failed share schemes and the magpie group. Both sets of fans are among the best in the country - it’s a shame we spend half of our lives arguing about this as opposed to who will next win something of note..

It's worse than that though. The year we finished 5th, we played the worst Premier League in the history of the Universe.

yes but isn't the Championship this season the best ever !!!

Not sure if this is right mind.
At the time the crowd wasn't anti Pards.

I think the top half of it gets stronger every year.
I’m talking since then. Whenever I’ve pointed out he did a good job it’s usually followed by tales of good fortune and how his fifth place was due to other clubs having poor seasons.

I've not personally heard a Newcastle fan saying this but wouldn't argue the point. Most people I know went off him at different stages through that long abysmal run he had a season and a half before he left.

It’s been said on here. I’ve always e argued he did a good job but suffered from being associated with Ashley. I maintain that Benitez won’t do as well as Pardew but will be far more fondly thought of. In fairness Rafa is doing very good job and better than I expected. I didn’t think you’s would go down but thought it would be nip and tuck. Hats off to the bloke.

i'd agree with that last statement. every year you have teams who've spent a decent wedge coming back down, even if they've only been up for 1 season, and have parachute payments to hold onto players. its only if they get stuck down there for 4 or 5 years that they have to trim their squad costs down. looks like stoke, southampton and brom are coming down, who've been up there for 10 years or so and spent a lot on their squads. there's not that much difference between the bottom half and the top 6 or so in the champ.
