But I thought Scott Oliver was involved with both entities and that he'd have enough influence to stop that happening. Is no more....
The football club has finally managed to oust them from the Sports club after many years of trying.
But I thought Scott Oliver was involved with both entities and that he'd have enough influence to stop that happening.
Tempus fugitScott hasn't been involved with the cricket club for over a decade.
They have their own plans and they can't implement them whilst a cricket club remains on site, so instead of revising the plans, the cricket club gets the boot.
Any chance if a new home. It's happening in alot of places. Shame on them.
Do GEMS not play at Wardley? Ground share?
Defunct for the coming 2018 season or beyond?
Beyond as far as using Hebburn Sports & Social Club is concerned.
As far as GEMS ground at Wardley, have you ever played there? It's a dog shit covered mess with raised drains on the outfield.
I'd imagine folk will end up going their separate ways to the likes of Bill Quay, Felling etc...
It's sad and I'm sorry to see a sports team leave the town, but the cricket club have got in the way of the football club for many years, as I understand it, they alway seemed to have more of a say on the sports ground and get an unfair share of money etc from the previous owners.
But I'd much rather see the town have a sports team that is excelling rather than two that are just existing. The plans for the football side of it are massive. Lay a proper surface and construct a new stand along the other touchline - currently the wicket is in the way. They want to build a new 3g pitch and move the kids up from Clegwell so all the teams are in the same place.
Hopefully the cricket team can find a new home - would sharing with Bill Quay not be an option?
Hopefully they will find somewhere, but I agree I can't think of anywhere ready made off the top of my head. Not sure if any of the schools can provide the facilities they need? Although there would be no bar available.Sorry like but as well constructed an argument as you've made they are killing off the sport in the town. It'll never come back to Hebburn now.
BQ is played on every Saturday unfortunately, Simonside would be the most local viable option I imagine.
Yeah, lets get rid of the one area to play cricket in the town and allow for even more football facitilies to be built. Great ideaIt's sad and I'm sorry to see a sports team leave the town, but the cricket club have got in the way of the football club for many years, as I understand it, they alway seemed to have more of a say on the sports ground and get an unfair share of money etc from the previous owners.

Hebburn sports club would like to provide clarification in response to all the social media stories going around this morning on Facebook I thought I’d just let people know what’s been going on regarding the cricket team as it is I who has been dealing with this and the various authorities involved in our planning application for the rear extension (to facilitate the serving of food inside the bar area) and the front balcony (to facilitate the enjoyment of sports fans watching various sports on the field).
It’s the balcony which has caused the fuss.
Firstly, Sport England raised an objection whilst they sought the views of the governing bodies of the various sports. The FA came back and agreed they were ok with the building of the balcony and that it was sufficient distance from the playing area.
Secondly, and here lies the problem.
The crickets governing body, the ECB, objected and said that the balcony impinged on the playing area even though we placed the patio area over the footprint of the old hotch-potch of fencing/walling in front of the bar albeit in a straighter, neater lineage.
We did this in line with our plan to make the bar the ‘hub’ of the new sports club and asked all of the teams to buy into it which they did. The lady at the ECB however didn’t and said if she allowed it there’d be houses being built on cricket creases up and down the country which is ridiculous.
I told the cricket captain this and that we want a cricket team here, but it is with regret that they’ve decided to move on to Luke’s Lane playing fields where they believe they’ll have more space. They have withdrawn from this year’s competitions and plan to start again next summer.
Thanks,
Terry Smith (Director)
