As someone pointed out earlier Nixon is hoping to hear from elsewhere and come out with a scoop. Nixon knows as much as you and me, NOWT.The bit I don’t get is Nixon told us he would have an update. Why tease like that whe he really hasn’t told us anything
Have a like for this bit. You've made some some canny observations on this thread.Because unlike you I understand context. It matters what we did vs those clubs more than anything, as that is the best guide to what we could and should have done in the same circumstances.
It's far easier to build a team with a modicum of stability than it is to take over a failing team that hasn't had the appropriate investment to start with. Cardiff spent £10m over the last 2 years. Fulham spent £45m. It's far easier when managers have the talent to start with, than to reshape an entire squad and team with only what is there + free transfers. It's not impossible, but it's harder having come down than it is having been in the division for a while.

PS - I'm taking that like back for beasting anyone who disagrees with you![]()
Fair enough, everyone gets het up on these threads at the minute.fair. I only really disagree with WHD and Hebdomad because they're so anti-Coleman that they refuse to mention key facts that don't support their narrative when they talk about him. Everything else is up for debate isn't it really?
I also enjoy a nipple salad.
I’ve had no updates to add, despite trying to find out more.
Even the journalist I know said he just keeps being told ‘No comment’.
I’d like to think that means things are still happening but who knows. I’ll keep trying and update if/when I can.
No but he signed them off, its under his watch, he has completely fucked up
we are spending enough money each week to be nowhere near the bottom
said they wanted to spend their money better, then he just signs off these ridiculous deals
Nee way you can remember that with your drink-addled brain.Am I the only one who remembers what the summer of 2006 was like on here?
Due diligence was ongoing for weeks but because there wasn't any "news" we'd have to suffer through hysterical threads on a daily basis from people saying "it must be off because we haven[t heard anything!"......i'm not sure why they, or the people doing it now, expect a daily briefing on what is a complicated business negotiation.
Thing is though I wouldn’t expect him to know whether the players he was signing off on were any good either individually or as part of a unit.....a fair few on here thought we’d done very good business last summer and were equally enthused by the appointment of Grayson.
The top and bottom of it is managers and scouts have consistently identified the wrong type of players and the owner (for the last few windows) has allocated insufficient funding for the job at hand. A new team every season has been the result.
None of that is wrong and I agree I guess
But I just thing it’s an easy excuse for them
I really think a manager should be held to account by the executives for every signing. Why do you need him, prove to me he’s better than what we have etc
They are ultimately responsible, if they aren’t then Short is blameless on that theory
You also have to consider that Bain was quick enough to criticise the transfer dealings of others so, just from that, I'd have expected to see some improvement under his watch. There's been none, whatsoever.

100%
I was all up for more responsibility, due diligence, care with money, we 100% needed it
Then he went and spent 20 million on NDong and Pappy
Never mind their ability, they ain’t the best characters
Why did he not ask any of this

Its OBrien the crane hire etc guy from Cork, hence the quinny linkwas O'Briens one of the names you heard ?
Spot on. I feel the same as you in that I'm not overly concerned about the austerity we find ourselves in. In theory we should be able to get out of league one easily enough due to the wage cap and the fact we've got a very good academy for that level. Bring our costs under control and then we should be able to grow and come back much stronger/ more robust.
That being said in order to do that we need to complement the academy with a full review of coaching and recruitment. In most businesses I would imagine the key executives would be quite invested in overseeing this initially. If De Fanti had come in and been mint then maybe now, a few years down the line, he'd be left to his own devices somewhat (not totally, but he'd have earned trust). But whilst we have people with no great record regarding recruitment I'd expect Bain to be on top of it, as you say asking why we need certain people or why we're spending a large chunk of the budget on one position. Maybe he is and he's just shit, maybe he isn't and he's failing in his duties. Either way it isn't positive for him and having criticised others he can't pretend that he shouldn't have a role in it
So who does the blame lie with on signing duff players if it isn't the manager? Do we actually have scouts or do they just use YouTube compilations?
