This. They are a couple of places above where they should be based on what they've spent on their squad compared to the other teams.

How can you possibly compare our rivalry, in terms of success, to the rivalries in Manchester, London and Liverpool ffs? Those three cities contain the three biggest/most successful clubs in England. United, Liverpool and Arsenal are unquestionably England's biggest clubs and piss all over their rivals in terms of success.

On the other sides of those cities, you have the current Champions of England who have just won the league for the 3rd time in recent seasons amongst a load of other trophies. They are the richest club in England (even the world?) and are a million miles ahead of everyone else in this country. They'll be winning leagues and European cups for the next decade.

You then have Chelsea who have won countless trophies in the last 15 years and again, are one of the richest clubs in the world, a million miles ahead of your club.
Spurs who are on the verge of winning things and compete in the Champions League regularly. Also, so far ahead of you financially.

You have Everton, but they are unquestionably the poor relations on Merseyside to their much more successful, much richer neighbours. If you equate us to Everton, that must mean you are the Liverpool but that would be ridiculous.

You aren't the Man Utd of Manchester because that would make us Man City and that's ridiculous. You aren't the Man City and us the Man Utd because that's also ridiculous.

You aren't the Arsenal and us Spurs or Chelsea or the other way round either.

Not sure it was premature like, weren't we nosediving towards relegation with all of them? it was an attempt to stay up which worked, but we never improved and just repeated the cycle. we've no idea if we'd have stuck with them whether we'd have been better off at the time, but considering our current position its hard to think we'd be worse off now.
 
So what we've learned today is that,

Neither set of fans would swap league status or recent derby history for the others.
