They're very happy with Benitez, we were very happy with Big Sam. Both good managers. Your lot seem to think your too good for Sam (and Benitez as well I'd imagine). For a team that hasn't finished above 4th in the last 30 years that's pretty delusional.

We dont think we know mate. He has got his chance at a big club with good players and has shown he's a one trick pony who hasn't a clue how to do anything but keep a side up.

Fine for clubs like WBA but for a club like us who spend big money, big wages, moving to a new 55k+ seater stadium and have a history as one of England's biggest clubs want and expect better than a bloke who's a footballing dinosaur.

Benitez was unemployed, unlike Klopp, Mourinho, Tuchel. He may have had offers from China or Europe, but has stated on several occasions that he wanted to stay in England. All the top clubs in the Premier League had incumbent managers at the time. By the time Everton, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Stoke were looking for managers Benitez was already seeing the side he brought up do well enough in the league, so why would he want to leave?

We're currently sitting 10th and while there are rumours of at least one Spanish side being interested in his services, I can't see which (non-Elite) Premier League club he'd trade us for. He wouldn't join Everton because his history at your rivals, West Ham are a calamity, Stoke and Southampton may well go down...

When you start using his criteria to narrow down the clubs he'd manage and the criteria of elite clubs to narrow down who they'd employ, it's a pretty small pool. And like it or not, we're a big fish in that small pool.

He's derided on here but Benitez is clearly a very good coach, one who is getting results with a bang average side in the Premier League. That being the case I don't think football has left him behind at all.

Both clubs there renowned for stability and long termism.

Lets be honest if Everton, Leicester or a top european side had wanted Rafa he would have been off on his bike. I just think your fanbase over rate the bloke based on past achievements - if he was as good a manager as some of your fans beleive he wouldn't have been managing in the championship and at a club with an owner unwilling to meet his expectations in terms of transfer budgets.

Bus driver on the way home was a mag...don't know if this counts ?

A lad a few seats to my right was on his phone all night and never reacted when we scored. I got a distinct whiff of mag with that one.

If you can’t take the piss out of your rivals (or anyone tbh) - as long as it’s done respectfully and not venemously, there’s something wrong with the world.

Exactly ;)

Not at all, nothing worse than, googling, registering and then spending numerous hours wasting your life away, it’s extremely fuckin sad in my opinion, could think of nothing worse then spending my quality time sat on a mag forum.

We obviously have different opinions on how you should/could spend your time.

I know who has the better life.

Get a grip man zig. How many hours have you spent on this forum making out your something your not and giving it the biggun 24/7 7 days a week.

There's jumble in your thinking. You're saying if one of the top European clubs wanted him, or Everton, or Leicester (?), he'd go, but if he's as average as you make out, why would anyone else want him? If one of the most trophied managers around (who's won things in various countries at various levels with various budgets and various calibre of players) is so mediocre, why would any club be after him at all?

He didn't join a Championship club, he joined a Premier League club and couldn't keep them up. He managed us in the 2nd tier because he was confident he could bring us back up at the first time of asking. He's stayed at a club where the owner is a prick because he sees that despite that, he can achieve his aims.

We're not kidding ourselves, if a bigger/better club comes in for him, he could go. But given he wants to stay in England, and he wouldn't manage Man Utd, Everton, and wouldn't go back to Chelsea. Also Man City, Liverpool and Spurs aren't looking to change their managers any time soon. Who does that leave? Arsenal, but would they want Benitez? his stock took a hit after Inter and Real Madrid. But it's a remote possibility. So who else? Why would he swap his ongoing, rewarding project at Newcastle for upheaval and uncertainty for some other midtable Premier League club? Especially as the rumours of a takeover won't go away.

Is it any shock that he's not rated by the fans of clubs who're rivals of clubs he's warmly regarded by? Everton and Sunderland fans insisting Benitez isn't as good as he's made out, because he's done well/is doing well at their rivals... I'm shocked.

I'm shocked too...shocked because I agree with you. I think Benitez has done a cracking job to get a less than average (fair?) squad of players to the top half of the Premier league.

It's not jumbled. He's saying if a bigger club came in he'd go but that is not likely because he doesn't think Benitez is not particularly good (hence not being at a bigger club). The fact sort of proves itself.

At least I think that's what he's saying.

How did you manage to just "stumble upon here"? I would find it extremely difficult just to stumble upon a mag forum or any other teams forum.

Did you actually search for this forum rather than stumble upon it?
I take it you've never used Google to see a rivals result or anything like that? Truth is you see a conversation developing between mags and mackems and you can't stop yourself from dropping in a bit of your mag hatred to try to derail the thread

Dunno how he sees it because he says he's got all the mags on ignore.

This is my point, it's not terrifically clear.

And I'm staggered that an Everton fan would not rate Benitez. I cannot think of any reason why they would ignore the trophies, the widespread respect and praise, to criticise a manager who did so well for their bitter rivals. I'm at a loss.

It's like Newcastle fans were told that Benitez would struggle in the Championship (he didn't), that only won the Championship because he spent more than every other team (he didn't), wouldn't keep us up (he has), and wouldn't stick around (he has). I'm at a loss to think of a reason why some Sunderland fans don't rate Benitez.

I'm shocked too...shocked because I agree with you. I think Benitez has done a cracking job to get a less than average (fair?) squad of players to the top half of the Premier league.
He has and I'm looking forward to the incredulity that will follow this suggestion, but I think he should at least be in the conservation for a Manager of the Year nomination. Guardiola or Dyche should win it, maybe Klopp if they get to the CL final?

For Benitez to get Newcastle to where they are, on the meagre budget he's had (only Burnley and Bournemouth have a lower Gross spend) with the average-at-best squad he's got, it's remarkable. Our post Christmas form has been brilliant and a lot of that is the loan signings he made for two positions I didn't think were priorities (LW & GK). We'll see if Slimani makes any difference in the final 6 games.

I would never google anything to do with you sad bastards.

I could think of nothing worse then spending my time on a mag forum, to be fair it speaks volumes about your lifestyles.

I’ve never hid my hatred for you lot, I’m open about that.

Don't believe it. If we were playing an important game and you had no other source to see the result, you'd use the internet.
Hatred??? Waste of time and emotions. None of us actually give a toss about your feelings

So Big Sam's not good enough because;
1.You spend big money
2.You won triophies donkey's years ago
3. You'll get big crowds if you get a new stadium.
Exactly the same reasons the mags didn't like him.
Didn't realise how similar Everton and Newcastle are.
