Rumours about our nearest & dearest trying to get into the Wolves game

Truth. Only two Ballon dor winners in that team.

You can't deny that it was far from a great Barca side mind and certainly nothing like the side they have now, as illustrated by the difference in tournaments they've won. That side had just lost Ronaldo and replaced him with Sonny Anderson ffs.

Oh, and none of their players had won the Balon D'Or when you played them. Hell, beat a man United side when Ronaldo played for them and you could claim you beat a side with only one Balon D'Or winner, but one that won it five times in the Messi era, not like Rivaldo who beat David Beckham into second

You are aware that it wasnt a great Newcastle side too. Sure it wasnt the Barca of now but they had Figo and Rivaldo in it and just won La Liga. Rivaldo won it the following season and yea granted Figo later but he got the move as he was playing well at Barca.

Any victory over a title winning team in the CL is worth celebrating.

Oh, so he lied. And hoped to get away with it. Oh dear.

Mag in disarray.

They won La Liga in the season they played you, they hadn't won it for 3 years at the time. I'm not denying it was a cracking result against a very good side mind, although it would have been more impressive if they'd gone on to do well in the tournament as opposed to being fucked 3 and 4 nil by Kiev and coming bottom of the group below PSV, it suggests you caught a Barcelona that, for whatever reason, wasn't suited to European football. And yes, maybe there is a bit of jealousy there, of course I'd love to see Sunderland playing big European sides. I still maintain however that some, like the lad bringing it up in this totally unrelated thread, go on as if it was somehow comparable to beating the current Barca side when it was nowhere near.

It was no 1973 that's for sure. The mag just can't catch a break at the moment :(

Im 30 in my lifetime we will probably never play CL football again and certainly never beat Barca. I will cling to remembering it as everything else has been mostly shit.

Why would they come tbh? The sensible mags realise this could easily happen to them, surely? All it would take would be Ashley to say I want my money back by July 2020 and they would be exactly where we are frankly.

The sensible mag is cautiously sympathetic to our plight. The **** mag (of which there are loads at work - the premier league crowd), is gloating.

Don't blame you in the slightest, and with it being a big foreign team I'd have loved it too. The side they had at the time though was just similar to beating a good Man United or Chelsea, not like the current/ recent Barca, the invincibles era Arsenal or even the current Man City. If I was feeling argumentative I'd argue that your win against Man United this season was more impressive considering you've still got a lot of Championship players, were near the bottom of the league and were playing a side that got through the Champions League group stage. I did put the winky fella in my first post like, it was the mag who pushed it ;)

Remember you can't fondly remember the six in a row mind.

I hate Pardew but he so nearly got it right against Benfica. I was at the return leg and we were unlucky. We have been a mess for most of Ashleys tenure but we have still had moments similarly to you. Been shit best part of my whole life yet have a record against us, more recently been in the prem longer and a cup final. Even through the shit we have enough moments to keep us foolishly hanging on.

Truth be known I’d love us to even have a certificate to say we’d won a division of an invitational Plop Cup right now.

I have genuine sympathy for you lot. Tonight is the first time ive had a pop as such possibly because im feeling rough as fuck. I know what its like to be shite and feel mismanaged even if our owner hasnt fucked us as badly as yours has.

126 going now

The no longer so mighty Sunderland are headed down to League One. Ready for a season of playing against the likes of MK Dons and Rochdale. Their season will start in the 1st round of the Cups and will include entrance into the EFL Trophy where they'll no doubt take a spanking as well.

Join us in celebration

You might have noted the winky think meaning I wasn't making a serious comment mind ;)
