Lee Cattermole’s testimonial

Testimonials should be a thing of the past. When players were paid next to nothing and having finished in football aged 35 or so with no career prospects they were certainly important. The likes of Jeff Astle had to take up work as a window cleaner I recall and plenty of our lads became things like lorry drivers and postmen.

These days even a very average player in one of the top two divisions earns enough money to set themselves up after football. I am not saying we shouldn't show proper appreciation to a player for long service but passing the hat around is completely unnecessary these days.

Full credit of course to former players like Quinny and Alan Shearer who did make use of their testimonials to organise very genuine and very effective charity fund raising events.I even dropped a couple of bob in to Alan's tin myself to keep him comfort in his old age. ;)

They're outdated shite. Never mind asking ordinary folk to buy a ticket so the multi millionaire can give a donation to a kid's hospital. How about the multi millionaire just donates himself?
When even some non league players are on £1000k a week testimonials have no place in football anymore.

I'm not sure they ever did actually. My dad didn't get one after 25 years at Sherburn pit.

Oh great another Cattermole thread

Why the hell are you putting Cattermole and O Shea with Rodwell?

You can spin anything any other way like
