What is a full time national selector and what is an independent selector and how are they different?

So a three man selection panel, one of which is the coach who doesn't have enough time to see players for himself.

Not sure how different this will turn out to be from now.

I don't think it can be any different-a selector "selects" regardless of his name or title. I think this is just a diplomatic way of getting rid of the present three. Regardless of whom they pick there'll always be accusers of favouritism-they'll always have or had connections with a particular county. Nevertheless I'd have Colly and Tresco, and dare I say, Peter Willey.

The new approach will allow us to see more players throughout the county game, more often, and simplify the selection process," England director of cricket Andrew Strauss said.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Given the muddled and frankly embarrassing selection for the last 2 winter tours, I welcome a change at the top. The fear is that it won't be enough

I think Strauss has done some decent thinks, but I am amazed he waited this long to change selection. As we needed a rethink when he came in

English selection was very good for a long time, and lots of picks came off. I think they were clinging onto that.

Isn't Graves chairing the selection panel?
He has nothing to do with the England team.

At one time Strauss was chairing it. In fact at one time he was the whole panel.

But the selection process is as clear as mud and I've searched online hoping for a description of the process but found nothing.

Thought I'd read that Graves would be chairing the selection panel that would select the members of the England Team Selection Panel? That probably doesn't make sense, but the inference was nothing happens without Graves' approval, and only people loyal to him will be given positions in the organisation.

I didn't see that but it doesn't sound likely. That type of thing would be down to Strauss surely.

Never known a selector spend as much time at the Riverside as Whitaker. He was a big supporter of Onions in his pomp and thats why Onions got picked for quite a few squads but not for the team as it was the coach and captain who did not fancy him opening the bowling with Anderson.
Having said that his time has been up for a while now.
