SMB Tennis thread (note there is a specific Wimbledon 22 thread)

Really enjoyed the Kyrgios match. Looked destined for a decider when JWT was 5-2 up on serve in the 4th set tie break. Dimitrov will surely have to up his level from the previous 2 rounds to make a game of their last 16 match.

Didn't expect the Georgian to win the next 2 sets when I went to bed but a great response from Edmund in that 4th set and is now a 2/5 to reach a slam quarter final, great stuff.

Most of the results went the way I wanted in the women's although I'd have preferred Ostapenko to have made it.

Federer on the evening slot again on RLA tonight.

It’s the obvious thing to say but don’t think Kyrgios has the temperament, Dimitrov’s winning at the O2 in November may have done his career a lot of good in terms of winning experience, should be the best match up of the last 16.

I didn't see their recent match but the one they had last year, Dimitrov went in to full on pusher mode and that always seems the sort of player that Kyrgios can get frustrated against and lose his head if he has to hit three or four winners just to win one point.

He seems different so far this year though. Tomljanovic being back on the tour every week seems to be making a difference to him.

Some cracking matches there. Most lookin forward to Kerber-Sharapova, but will definitely watch the Zverev, Delpo and Barty matches as well. Shame there's not an obvious stand out at 12am though.

Eurosport 1 showing all the Laver matches, Eurosport 2 showing all of MCA.

Two best matches of the tournament so far just there. Murray/Soares v Paes/Raja and Halep v Davis.

Good to see Halep come through. Could be another belter against Barty or Osaka.

Loved that Halep match. Watched until jut before 2am last night when I went to bed with Halep just breaking to go 2-1 up in the final set. Never thought the match wouldn't even be half finished at that point  - so many breaks and Halep served for the match at least 3 times and Davies couldn't take advantage of 3 consecutive match points on the Halep serve either. Type of match where you genuinely don't want either to lose. Got to wonder how much Halep will have left after that, being on the court almost 4 hours and those ankle concerns from the Aiava match, at least the heat wasn't a massive factor today. Fantastic opportunity for Osaka to finally come of age mind and reach the quarter final - she was great in her win over Barty and really is a marketers dream.

Kerber-Sharapova was a bit one sided, bar a 5 game spell in the second set. A lot still to do in that loaded top half, but Kerber will probably be favourite to reach the final now. Match favourites Pliskova, Strycova, Keys and Garcia all come through OK so there'll be some decent last 16 matches there on Monday.

Another choke from Zverev, awful fifth set and with Delpo going out it is paving way for the Djok-Federer semi, although Thiem has apparently looked impressive so far.

Not a surprise, but Edmond is buried way down the schedule tonight.

Is our Caroline playing overnight or tomorrow morning ?

Your Caroline is 2nd on centre court, so you're looking at around 3am Danish time. I'm gonna stay up for the Kontaveit match and then catch the rest in the morning. Think the Kyrgios match is the pick of the matches overall tomorrow.

Goody, thank you.

You staying up for it?

Not sure about staying up but if I turn in I will set the alarm so I can watch it. Recovering from the fourth heart procedure in eight months (another blood clot in the heart) and though am back home now my sleeping pattern is a bit hit and miss still. Am not allowed to get stressed nor frustrated and angry so am hoping for a straight win without too much hassle. :)

Sorry to hear that; hope you weren't watching the Fett match the other day.
