"This is Roker Park and nobody shows us up."

Shame the current crop are a bunch of little fannies and don't feel the same.

Let’s hold on a second here. Ball was part of two relegated sides and a side that teetered in the verge of relegation to the third tier as well.

The current lot may well feel the same. Sadly, they have the same the problem as that previous era of players did; they aren’t very good.

We've been in a continual relegation battle ever since wondermole joined us

Far more top flight appearances for Sunderland than Kevin Ball. Relegation or no relegation battle.

Anyway, that wasn’t what I used the Cattermole comparison for. It was more to highlight that the days of Ball’s footballing style are no more. A player like that wouldn’t last five minutes.

You'd think wndermole would learn his combative technique is practically obsolete in this game but no keeps making the same daft tackles

Footballers like that then were necessary. It was why home advantage was so much more prevalent in football - you got a proper hard time away from home and got kicked around and refs did little about it. You had to earn the right to play.

You still need commitment and fight obviously now but in a completely different way. Love Bally me but that's living in the past if we are talking about the terrible predicament the current side finds itself in.
