How long can Rafa last?

Sorting finances and being niggardly in the transfer market aren't intrinsically linked, and, surprise surprise, they're more complicated topics than that.

Finances and the highest percentage of expenditure aren't linked ..... haway man, that's ridiculous.

Niggardly is another word for miserley ..... you're really saying that about Ashley?

I can't be bothered to argue with drivel like this tbh ..... enjoy your day.

Because Pardew acquiesced. He was complicit. He had no room to complain. Rafa is fighting for the NUFC the supporters deserve and has done from day one. Mad that you'd even compare the two men!

What the fuck is his Twitter picture :lol: is he the one who pretends he supports Bradford or something like that

What has he exactly been doing to fight the man that is Ashley?

Time will tell. I think Newcastle have the weakest squad in the Premier League. Not necessarily the weakest team though.

Down to selling players and not replacing them. I would blame Ashley.
With Rafa's dodgy buying record, you can hardly blame Ashley for being cautious. He's got them out of the mess left by the previous regime and doesn't want to lay out money he hasn't got.

Come on man Reiver, we were getting along so well...

Yes, he's pulled our expenditure in from the boom and bust days of Shepherd where we were paying huge fees to clubs and massive wages to players so we could sign "names" (Damien Duff springs to mind). But the transfer policy he installed is chiefly responsible for the mess we find ourselves in now.

Signing a player chiefly to sell him for a profit is a risky strategy, even more so when the needs of the team are secondary to the need to make a profit.

Pre-Ashley, Newcastle United were a comfortable midtable side that flirted more often with Europe than they did relegation. We've had 2 since he joined and may have a 3rd. Our commercial revenue has since stalled while other clubs have soared away. A better owner would have installed a good manager not just a yes man, supported him as best he could (without risking future financial turmoil), and should other clubs offer stupid amounts for well performing players, sell 'em by all means, but only do so once a replacement has been secured.

You defend Ashley because Newcastle fans hate him. Were Hull your local rivals you'd defend Allam, Blackpool, you'd defend Oyston, and so on.

That's because you were spending well beyond your means, you've found your true level now (bottom half prem club with an occasional season in the second tier).

When has Ashley sold a player and not replaced him?
For a player of a similar standard?

Carroll? unless you count Stephen Ireland loan deal as a Carroll Replacement?
Cabaye? unless you count Luuk de Jong loan deal as a suitable Cabaye replacement?
Ba?
Cisse?
Remy (technically didn't make the loan deal permanent, so probably doesn't count.)

Have you yet found your level?

Do you really believe Ashley scouts and buys the players?
The replacements will be what the manager or super scout Carr asked for.

Yes it's the same as your'es bottom half prem with the occasional season in the second tier.
The difference is we accept this and don't think we are footballing giants like yourselves.

Cheers mate, you might as well talk to a brick wall though - Sima already knows "my mind" and apparently knows how I feel about Everton too...

Funny how Sima was quick to get a pop in before checking his facts but not so quick at acknowledging his mistake...

Newcastle last 10 years = £296m.
West Brom = £176m
Stoke = £194m

Newcastle net spend = £30m
West Brom = £66m
Stoke = £130m

In the last 10 years Stoke with the biggest net spend of those three have finished between 9th and 16th, no relegations.

West Brom have had one relegation in 09 and one promotion in 2010 and have never finished below 15th since the relegation.

Newcastle have had two relegations in 10 years and just stayed up on game 37 in 2013 and game 38 in 2015.

So teams that spend more and speculate to accumulate tend to do better.
