Karanka

I wouldn't rule Karanka totally out.

I would be surprised but he does live round here, he is settled. He could sign a short term contract to keep you up and make some money. He will then see what happens in the summer (new owners etc)

Karanka will not be Sunderland manager. We have no ambition, no money and aren't interested in a Premier return. It will not bother Bain, one iota if we get relegated. His brief would have been to save a certain amount of money and the less he pays for a manager the more chance he has to collect his bonus. Hence the calibre of names being bandied around
Why sack Grayson then, if that is the case?

That's about the only scenario I could see him taking the job on. Unfortunately that would depend on;
A Sunderland being imaginative and flexible enough to come up with terms agreeable to both sides and
B Paying wages that he'd consider comparable with such an offer
