Ffs man. Stop picking the fuck out of the grammar. Its clearly a letter about converting to Islam. There would be no point in asking a class full of kids to write their parents a letter about NOT converting to Islam.
It’s a methodology/teaching task to determine that the child understands the subject content, in this case Islam.

It’s actually s very conducive way to check the child’s knowledge and understanding.

Links into a whole school literacy I’d imagine and ensures that the plagiarism is kept to a minimum.

And mods ban delete this thread before baggy reads it ffs

Just a quick question for those saying religion shouldnt be taught anymore and why do we believe in myths and sky pixies.

Will you be open in Christmas presents this christmas

RE at school was when I first realised Islam was a bit dodgy. We learned about religions in RE at my school, not indoctrination. We were taught mohammed spread his religion by the sword, i. e. Convert or die. I surely wasn't the only one thinking it was mental.

Aye mate. Christianity has a whiter than white past doesn't it

Clearly it isn't, it's right there. I'm not picking the fuck out of the grammar, I'm reading the brief.

In RE I was asked to write about things like euthanasia and abortion, I wasn't pilloried for not being against them in my summary when I handed in the work.

If the task was "Write a letter to your parents telling them you want to convert to Islam and why" I'd be agreeing with you and joining in with the outrage. It wasn't, so I'm not.

It's a public service to everyone not just you and your child.

Here's one for you. The Muslim family down the road send their kids to this school and they want Islam taught to all the kids.

They have just the same rationale as you. Would you be happy to accept that? Or are your beliefs the most important?
So take all religion out of all schools. If you want to teach your kids about made up sky pixies, do it at your own church at your own expense and in your own time.

I don't understand why people are so against RE. Surely teaching kids about the ridiculous things religious people believe is the best way to ensure that they don't fall for it. It's not like the lessons actually teach that any particular religion is correct.
but they don't teach them that way. in our school creationism was taught to my son as fact!!!!!

This. I’d close all religious schools at the end of the school year and force them to re-open as secular schools.

I’d also imprison any teacher found to be teaching creationism with any degree of factual basis.

As someone who went to several non-faith primary schools in County Durham, between 1995 and 2002, I had to sing hymns in assembly and we were taught the bible.

It wasn’t until I was 8 or 9 that any other faiths were even mentioned.

It’s indoctrination.

I've never believed in any religion as long as I can remember. As soon as I realised Santa was made up, I realised god was made up too. Richard Dawkins says he thinks it essential to teach the history of religion but I disagree since I think it is simply a way for schools to promote religion by any other method.

Lucky you, I was sent to Sunday school as a kid and I suppose I did believe it. I can't remember when I realised it was a load of bollocks, but maybe it was RE lessons when I found out there's other religions as well.

My parents told me there was this man in the sky watching me everywhere and I said "even when I'm on the toilet ?".

It's your belief that there isn't a God and that religion is bollocks - but that doesn't mean everyone has to play to your tune in life.

Let that sink in mate.

Too many intolerant and selfish people like you in this world.

Actually I’ll clarify this - taught stories FROM the bible.

We didn’t have bible studies itself.
