Karanka

Didn’t he spend a shit load at Boro and went in the huff more than once when they tried to reel him in? If he’s the man, it won’t end well.
Gibson spent nigh on 20m on rhodes and downing and he didnt want them.
Take that out of his spend and he was very parsiminious.

Love how Karanka is a true Red and White as well from Bilbao. Another shipbuilding town and from a club created by Mackems ;)

Paul Hurst

He's young, ambitious, doesn't take crap, has a winning mentality and has a track record of taking clubs in crisis and turning them around on a shoestring. He ticks all the boxes for me. Karanka doesn't.

Who do you want?

I'm not sure if this issue is the same at all clubs but I do tend to notice there's never a candidate that gets universal backing from our support. Even with O'Neill (probably the closest to it) there were plenty who actively didn't want him to the point they were vocal and angry about it.

Karanka to me seems like the logical choice if he'l take it, but you know that there will be loads waiting for him to fail as they'd rather be right in saying he's no good than have to admit otherwise.

One f***ing massive box he doesn't tick is that he's never managed above league one and he's only been doing that for five minutes. What type of football does he play? I know nowt about him at all other than he's got zero experience at the level we need him to perform at.

Karanka ticks way more boxes given his experience at Boro mirrors ours right now more closely than anything else I can think of.

Karanka is my choice but no chance it will happen and Short will want a yes man.

He done really well with Boro. Not sure why so many are against him. They just seem to be judging him on setting a newly promoted side up defensively. He didn’t do that in the championship and turned the club around and had them playing good football

I think you're wrong there mate. I'm one of the minority here that doesn't want him but I'd be over the moon for him to prove my concerns wrong. I keep reading people saying "I don't mind if we have to settle for boring 1-0 wins". Well imo, under this fella those will more likely be 1-0 defeats. That Boro side he got promoted were a damn sight better than we are atm and they hardly swashbuckled their way to promotion. It doesn't matter how good of an organiser he is if he hasn't got the tools to work with and quite frankly, our defence and keepers are woeful so even by camping in our own half (which we will) and trying to be compact we'll still likely concede at some point then all bets are off as this bloke has to be the worst manager going at chasing a game. We've got no money, its not a tactician we need, its a motivator and you'd have to go a long way to find anyone that would accuse Karanka of being one of those. For those reasons, he's not for me.

I think it depends on your view here. I think we DO have players capable of at least not getting relegated out of this league. When he came to Boro they were looking at relegation, he stabilized them then improved them year on year until they got promoted. That's the job we need doing and I think we DO need a tactician because motivation doesn't work on this lot, they don't care at all, but they can be made to play for effectively.

I don't think the effort is lacking for most of them, just the organization and ability. A few will be bombed out and that'll help the team as a whole.

Well if he comes, I sincerely hope you're proved right.

id be happy with him - plenty of experience at this level.

that said, why any decent manager would take the job is beyond me - time and time again we churn through managers who have all apparently been incompetent except for Sam. Working here seems a short term appointment that generally leaves a stain on your cv.

Its happened too many times to be just the managers mate. We've had way more than our fair share of under performing players in recent times.

I kind of agree with you but we're already at the bottom, screwed financially and have tried more accomplished managers with experience and look where it's got us. Great managers have to start somewhere mate. I hadn't heard of Paul Hurst before now but folk that have, appear to have nothing but good to say about him. Should we take a chance on a young up and coming manager and build for the future? I would rather the club went down this route than bringing in the likes of McCoist or McLeish et al.
