Four day tests to be trialled amongst the lower ranked nations too.

How many tests last the full five days nowadays? I can remember a fair few draws in England when I started watching the game in the late 70's but they seem to be rarer than hens teeth nowadays.

Depends who is playing and venue.

Would have been a canny few of the best tests of all time, not happening if they had been four day games.

I don't agree with the change to four days personally as imo, it will lead to more draws
 
Excellent idea this, gives more context to the best form of the game in countries where it has fallen behind the one day stuff. As for 4 day tests, maybe with longer days of 100 overs, but I'd go for a restriction on 1st innings overs, maybe a max of 130 each. Trial it, see how it goes.

A max of 130 each would work in the subcontinent where 1st innings can go on for ever. You could lose the wearing pitch effect though, late on in the game.

Personally I would rather have "timeless" Tests whereby there's not 5 days or any other limit. Should the match go to the Second Innings then the team batting last either scores the runs required, and wins, or are bowled out and lose. From the outset the match cannot be drawn.

If only, would never get the OK from the TV companies imo

All these suggestions for tests are ok, but why not try and improve the current way tests are played?

All these five mins drinks breaks after an hour, the constant on and off for helmets, pads etc etc. Cut them out and the 90 overs maybe finished on time

Also drs give that to the umpire standing and the third umpire watching.

The replays are pretty instant anyway, so it would remove it completely out of players appealing all the time, sometimes tactically.

Do away with coming off for bad light, if the ground has flood lights switched on.

Pretty much my take on it. There's plenty of ways they could have improved the experience for the paying spectator but they've addressed none of that. They don't have 5 minute drink breaks in more fast paced sports where it would probably be more justified. Make a little cooler box buried in the ground behind each set of stumps and have a few round the boundary.
 
The pace of the game can depend on the weather. But I agree, all of these meaningless stoppages detract from the enjoyment. Didn't happen 20+ years ago.

Think that might cause a lot of problems with hotel booking, ground availability along with many other issues.

Aye it wouldn’t be straight forward but I would just like to see a Test played where there will definitely be a result. Would be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Should definitely be used for the final of this comp if it ever happens. Would be interesting to see how modern day "aggressive" batsmen would go about it. Then you'd get batters like Pujara who would make it their mission to bat for a week.

A draw is a result. You're taking away potential of a side fighting for a draw, which often is one of the most tense and gripping situations in the game.
 
If they go to 4 days, then they will need to up the over rate. 80 overs in a day is shit, should be able to get closer to 100 overs a day with a little extra time (which they should use as much time as they can). They could keep 'day 5' as a reserve day to play any lost overs.
