Apparently they have lost the high court appeal over the seizure of documents by tax officials probing the financial affairs of NUFC.

Classic delaying tactic. Idea civil servants wouldn't have ticked all the correct legal boxes for the birds. They are bureaucratic and risk obsessed to a fault.

Who knows - the investigation appears to relate to tax evasion by players in the UK and France. It could be as simple as them gathering evidence on what Newcastle thought they were paying players, and comparing it to the amounts declared by those players. In that case, they would probably be an innocent party, unless they should have been deducting PAYE on the payments, and didn't. On the other hand, they may have been involved in some kind of failed avoidance scheme (see Rangers), and HMRC will be gunning for them as well. Pointless speculating until HMRC finish crawling over the evidence.
