I think you will find I didn't start it, 3 posters mentioned it before me, you included. My original point remains, it doesn't matter what they do, they couldn't make our situation worse, as your tongue in cheek title implies. I'd much rather SAFC were a well ran club, competing in the Premier League, but we aren't. We are a f***ing shambles languishing at the bottom of the Championship. Them being bought out by Sheikh Rattlenroll doesn't make our situation worse, getting relegated to league 1 does.

You said to me: "It would appear that some of us errrm you are obsessed with them."

I think you'll find that's you accusing me of being obsessed for starting ONE post on Newcastle.

As for your original point, let's agree to disagree. Me personally, I want Newcastle to be as shit (or shitter) than we are. It wouldn't make us any less shit, but I personally would rather avoid having Mags laugh at us. A successful Newcastle team means more of the fuckers coming out of the woodwork to give it large. That would certainly make me feel even worse. If it wouldn't you, then fair play, we're very different.

They spend good money every summer and still managed to get relegated so what on earth difference would a new owner make? At best they'd get a year or two of higher than average spending before they'd revert to "spending smart and generating transfer fees from within the club". The sugar daddy era in England is over. There'll never be any more as it's too crowded in the top 6. There's probably room for one more in France but everyone else will just have to wait for the MLS to grow sufficiently.

your previous post to this was you saying that I started the obsession, I didn't, Carty may have. I accused you of it, because that is the way you came across in the title. But that isn't the point, just because they could laugh at you even more has no implication whatsoever on the fortunes of Sunderland. At this moment in time, we are f***ing shocking, could it get worse? Yes of course it can, we could drop another league, now that would piss me off more than Newcastle being taken over. Anyhow, off to enjoy the last day of my holiday. Have a good day

Ambition. Ashley wants Premier League survival, anything over that is cherry on the cake.

Also, I wouldn't categorise Ashley's tenure as particularly high spending. Majority of summers under his control have seen Newcastle post a profit when it comes to transfers.

In your opinion, i'm sure Ashley would love to finish as high as possible and qualify for the Champions League.

Two fucks I could not give about that shower of shit up the road. I nothing them. They do not exist in my world!!!

Aye, his summer spending following us finishing fifth is definitely proof of this theory. It's exactly what an owner would have done if he wanted to cement a position among the leading lights of the league.

I've no idea how much he spent that summer, doesn't mean he didn't want to have a good season and finish high as possible again. One thing you can't accuse Mike Ashley of and that's giving his managers money to spend.

Last five seasons £200 million gross, £64 million net, would of said that is giving his managers money to spend like.

Why 5 seasons? Our net spend under Ashley's tenure is a whopping £37M, or £3.7M a season.

In these days of the cash strapped football industry, I have to say that's incredible generosity on his behalf.

And the five before that? It's around £25m profit. Odd that you are narrowing the timeframe outside of his whole tenure. Almost as if you are misrepresenting the facts to push a narrative.

The only time he's financed spending massively above the incomings is the two times we have been relegation threatened in the January window (once successfully) and misguidedly giving McClaren an absolute fortune in summer 2015.

The first time he spent to save us from relegation we were spun the line that this was the summer spending brought forward and little was spent in the summer (Remy on loan being the only major transfer in).

No idea , how longs a piece of string. Just thought i'd look at the last few seasons to see how generous he's been and decided on 5 seasons, surely that's more relevant than the seasons before that.

Nope - I said 'you started banging on about obsession' in reference to the conversation we were having. It was you accusing me of it. I didn't say you were first to do it, not by any means - and that's irrelevant. I said you accused me of it. And you STILL haven't admitted that that's clearly not true.

Sunderland getting relegated (again) would be far worse than them being taken over. That wasn't the point, though, was it? The point was them being taken over and given heavy investment - like, as said, City - would be awful for Sunderland fans to have to endure, when we're so shit.

You've dodged round it a few times, and answered other points, but that's essentially what I've been saying from the start. For Newcastle to become "City-like rich" while we're clearly so awful would only add to our feeling of despair. Hence it doesn't rain, but it pours.

Anyhow, enjoy the last day of your holiday. And good day to you, too.
