The club is dead.

You could always hope that things would get better eventually but not under this regime Short and Bain are destroying the club until they go nothing will improve. Going into the 3rd division would be another disaster.

Why does Bain get so much abuse? ...he was brought in to do a thankless task ...he didn't choose the managers who failed ...he obviously didn't pick the players who have also failed ..he is trying desperately to stem the flow of money out of the club by making a number of difficult decisions which eventually will put us on a stable footing which we've needed for years!

We’ve been lower than this before man we’ll come back.

Mind it’s been a long slow death since about 2002 when Reidy’s time was up. For me we’ve never recovered. Even the Championship win under Keane was papering over the cracks. He somehow managed to get a turgid side promoted, and then splashed far too much money on terrible players which then became our motus operandi for the next ten years.

It's a shame really, everything is in place to be a top club it's just we don't have the right owner to take it forward. Short has made mistake after mistake, it would be interesting to know where we would have ended up if we had an owner who knew what he was doing, obviously we'll never know. The club is finished, will take many years to put right.
We really haven't got everything in place to be a top club. Maybe a mid table club in the top flight.

Still think we will go up with no bother like you were saying last season mate?
If you had read previous posts I've said we would have went back up if we had the budget that was being circulated in the press, since our budget of next 2 nowt I've said midtable

We could have built on what we have, if the right owner was in place we could have been something like Southampton but we'll never know now.

Southampton aren't a top club.
They have done very well over the years, they have made profits on players as well as bringing players through academy, I'd beg to differ. We have the infrastructure in place to be up there, the owner is stopping any development at this club unfortunately.

He deserves criticism because he stuck by his mate Moyes when he shouldve been sacked. He hasnt done anything good since he got here the Celtic friendly farce, the shit home strip, Rangers connections, New York jolly when handing out redundancies, goes on about signing players for profit then let Moyes waste £40m on 14 rubbish players.
Bain has already got one relegation under his belt he could well oversee back to back relegations in the 2 seasons since he got here. We are sinking through the Football League so much for stability the bloke is clueless.

We could possibly be a Southampton. They have done well. They aren't a top club though and we don't have the infrastructure to become one.

We have a big stadium, big fan base which was top 6 in the Prem I believe and the academy. Sunderland does not deserve to be where it is, it's only because of the owner not taking us in the right direction unfortunately. It's a shame to see us as we are mainly because I know it's not going to turn around to where we should be in a few years, it will take a very long time.
Big stadium, loads of clubs have one and it's not really an advantage in these days where most income comes from tv. Our matchday income is tiny anyway compared to the Manchester/ London teams.
Fan base, used to be up in the top 6 but that was only because clubs who would get more had small stadiums.
Academy, every one has one now.

We missed the boat when we didn't capitalise in the early 2000's when we had better facilites than others, but we are now trailing a lot of them.

I think if hypothetically, every club played to their potential every week we'd be lower mid table in the PL. Not saying that some point in the future we couldn't over achieve for a bit but as a self sufficient club we will never be able to challenge at the top end on a consistent basis. It would take an awab.
