So with what was available. What could we have done different and how would we have gone about it? Hint: spending or adding money isn't an option.

He's bought poorly, largely because he had a limited budget.
What could he have done differently? Bought wisely? Begged for more? Hid under the desk? I dunno. He's the manager not me but his signings are utterly lacklustre.

Grayson has played a decent hand IMO.

He could have signed players with less talent.

Instead he's taken a calculated gamble on fringe premier league players who whatever reason have fell out of favour.

The raw talent is definitely there. They just need to produce it on the pitch on a regular basis.

Sick of hearing 'get behind the lads'. It's a given. The problem is that the players haven't been behind us supporters for nigh on a decade.
