Hmm, they looked as though they were starting to get it together against West Ham, though West Ham haven't been an example of great football so far either.

Too early to call for the great unwashed and Benitez is a decent manager.

1995/96: 38
1996/97: 41
1997/98: 40

Wrong again. I just looked at the 99/00 season for example. The team that finished in 17th got 36 points. However, the team that finished in 18th got 33 points. That means that the points required to stay up is 34 points, not 36 points.

You aren't very good at this are you?

You're confusing the number of points the team in 17th actually got with the minimum they'd have needed for that position

They will be there or thereabouts. They really aren't very good at all and there is a very bad atmosphere within the club. It will be a season long battle.

I take your point - however, if you'd achieved 34 points in that season, you'd have still gone down as the team above you in 17th had 36 points.
