Why would Mersin hate Newcastle? The facts are that over the period of time someone like Merson has been doing his punditry both the mags and us have been in the main shite. Quite what fans of either club are hoping for in terms of praise I've no idea.

Don't know why, but his contempt is blatant. Beyond just thinking our football is shite, to actually insulting the fans and so on. Goes beyond ignorance, cliches and whatever. He patently doesn't like us. I've heard him groaning at a late equalisers/winners on Soccer Saturday. Even when we're not playing Villa or Arsenal.

I don't think it's praise we're after, just neutrality.

Prutton is another one who doesn't like us, of and Don Goodman. Counter intuitively ex-Sunderland players like Niall Quinn tend to be more balanced on us than not. It's like you lot with Shearer, if he criticises your team, it always seem to be with the caveat that your fans deserve better.

Your fans have deserved criticism in certain instances, surely even you as a mag supporter can understand that.
There is no reason for him to dislike a club who have won nothing and challenge for nothing, it would be like him disliking Stoke or West Brom and same goes for other pundits. Some fans are paranoid as fuck.

Of course, but Merson isn't having a go at the Horse Puncher, or Steve Wraith. "Vose fans expect top 4 an fink Noocarssle is a big clahb", etc.

There isn't a reason for him to dislike us, no reason I can think of, but he does.

Probably the same reason Spurs fans don't like Newcastle, or Everton, or Villa. We have, at times, been competing with them for the scraps from the big table. We get more attention on tv than they think we deserve (as if time spent talked about on tv is directly linked to performances on the pitch). I dunno, it's odd.
