Sunderland V Derby Match Thread

That's not the rule though. You have to do it deliberately.

When you're falling down, and the ball bounces up from the ground onto your arm - that's a very harsh call to say it was deliberate handball. I'll take it, though

While it was a tad harsh, his arm was in an 'unnatural' position, albeit while he was going down, but still the correct decision IMO

Mixed feelings after that. Thought we played well but was shocked at how bad Derby were yet we couldn't beat them. Cattermole will be great in this league but we need 30+ games out of him. If Derby are the benchmark for a top half team in this league I'm confident we'll finish top 6.

Just got in from work and watched the match. I thought we did the basics really well. Closing down, challenging for the second ball, the defence looked a lot better than it has in pre season etc. It's a good foundation to build on. Cattermole was immense and played for the full 90 and gave a proper captain's performance. Vaughan will cause problems, McGeady played really well even if he did try a little too hard at times. We'll score goals with that attacking lineup too.

Top 6 has to be the aim, wether or not the squad can keep up that level of pressing/running for the season is my worry.

To have steadied the ship after last weeks' mullering, in my opinion, is very significant, especially after falling behind so early. A win would have been better of course, and should we lose next week it's suddenly another 'bad start', but I feel a lot better after this game than I did going into it.

So aye.

So the team etc has been universally panned and we were going to get thrashed.
We get a point, but the woodwork and still people are unhappy we didn't beat a highly fancied team
Twist on 21 is the expression I believe.
New manager, new players getting bedded in, virtually a whole new 'back 5' , and probably players still to come in.
To me it bodes well. However I won't compliment or condemn until 8 or more games.
I realise this is anathema to the knee jerking misserati but hey ho.
