Under Ardiles before KK arrived, there were a good few sub 20000 gates. BUT, we had a few as well, even in the 96/97 relegation season.
They totally lucked out with Keegan showing up just as the premiership was kicking off, totally left us behind by hoovering up all the so far uncommitted fans who would normally have gravitated towards us, they do have greater numbers but also a much higher % of plastics, no one follows Sunderland for the glory.....

Glory.... certainly not

Them and Liverpool fans are definitely alike. Just saw a Liverpool "fan" from America tweet that Barcelona are on the decline whilst LFC are a more attractive project for Coutinho in the coming years :lol:
As much as it might pain you, Liverpool can back it up. They're 18 times champions of England, 5 times champions of Europe and countless other "lesser" trophies over the years. Along with Man Utd, they are Englands biggest/best/premier (call it what you want) football club. Newcastle? They've won a f***ing certificate in nearly 50 years. In reality, they're nothing alike.
