Widely reported that Benitez is allowed to spend everything he earns. Sure there's quotes from Benitez himself to that effect.

So money from sales, the buttons we got for promotion, the first tranche of Premier League money etc.

He cares little for us or our club. He's made us financially sound. I think the abiding feeling is that we'll give him a chance because he supported McClaren in 2 windows, and Benitez in 1 (so far). But we know he's as likely to be niggardly, risking our Premier League future.

If we'd strengthened in January we could have cemented our promotion and stolen a march on this season. Instead, Ashley gambled on us having enough to make it and didn't part with funds.

After the 80m you spent the previous season and the 50m you spent in the summer of that season I'm not surprised. Not sure why a World Class manager :lol: needed such a large budget and then even more money to get you up in the first place but I'm sure I have been through this with you before and you failed to acknowledge anything negative at all towards Benitez

But he's the greatest manager in the world and 'poorer' managers have kept teams up with worse teams that what Newcastle have now and with less money to spend.

I've said critical things about Benitez, plenty, but they're largely ignored.

It makes sense to spend within our means, but spending £13m (on Townsend) in January would have cemented promotion, acquired an experienced Premier League winger for a reasonable price and reduced the expenditure in what was always going to be an inflated market.

How much would Townsend cost now?
