James Vaughan

If he's being signed as first choice, then how thoroughly depressing. If he's being signed as back-up, then I would much rather give Maja and/or Asoro an extended shot. Because, lets face it, if the likes of James Vaughan are going to be given extended game time then it would look like we've got zero chance of achieving anything.

This type of signing would just typify how Short has absolutely ruined this football club.

I don't know about promotion with the players we are looking at relegation is the more likely and you would all have been saying that at the same time last year with the same targets. Short really has done us over, now stripping what is left of the assetts and not looking like reinvesting. Grayson will need to pull out all the stops to keep us in this league. To quote Bill Shankley again "buy second division players and you get a second division team." It follows that buying third division players will get you a third division team. That's the problem with relegation it brings that whole new world closer if you are not careful.

He is a manager, a journey man manager not a miracle man.
Where did Shankley get Keegan and Clements from? Remind me.

TBF there's no reason why we can't sign a main choice, one on loan, Vaughan and those two getting games. There's 46 league games plus cup games and no kid at 18 is going to be ready for that.

Look through that Preston team Grayson had over the last two seasons and almost everyone on here would be saying "who the fuck is he?".

Yet Grayson finished 11th twice with them with a total spend of less than £2m combined over the two Championship seasons.

Like it or not, he is going to build a team that isn't full of attractive names but who will work and fight like fuck for the cause.

Maybe the plan is that Vaughan is a cheap backup? After all it is a long, hard season and we currently have very few senior strikers. Wait and see before blowing your top.
