Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

Fair points also could be possible that players were lined up and you wouldn't/couldn't pay the wages or even possible that the club couldn't attract players for one reason or another............bit like us at the minute.

Bottom line is clubs struggle to sign/attract players for a variety of reasons BUT managers are ALWAYS unhappy if they can't get players in/deals over the line and whilst there is often a big difference of opinion in how good your current manager is I'm of the opinion he is an attractive proposition for a lot of clubs therefore the failure to move forward as he wants has to be a concern although I do accept the point that he could have jumped whilst still in the championship so why would he do it now in the Premier, (doubt he fancies another relegation on his CV mind)

By all accounts Townsend (e.g.) was keen on the move at the time, we certainly could afford the fee and his wages. We were odds on for promotion and it was a club/manager Townsend had apparently enjoyed playing for before. Surely the only sticking point will have been the boardroom at St JAmes' trying to get Townsend for less than Palace were willing to release him. Subsequently we've seen a transfer for a player with a release clause drag on because, yet again, the boardroom at St James' are bickering over comparatively small sums, seemingly oblivious to the state of the wider market.

I think there's a subsection of the Sunderland fans on this board who would rather not give their honest opinion, just so that they can disagree with the few Newcastle fans on here. Claiming Benitez is a shit manager is ludicrous, just as the Newcastle fans who claim he's World Class are ludicrous. I think the key difference is I don't believe the majority of Sunderland fans are represented by these few, while these few think the few Newcastle fans are representative of the majority.

I'm not holding you to account at all, I was asking a question, a question you couldn't answer so, labelled me a hypocrite, despite providing zero evidence I have done what you are presently doing i.e.being hypocritical.
I was also asking the question due to your pompous stance and your claim to be having a laugh at the expense of others.
I did answer. To say I didn't is a lie.

Think you had a lucky escape with Townsend mind. There is one career that is flattering to deceive and that's being generous.

I did answer. To say I didn't is a lie.

I asked you to provide proof to your claim, you said you couldn't.

I think you're attributing far more fucks than 99.9% of Sunderland fans could give about your squad, your manager, and your chairmen's influence over both, being honest.

Also, questionable use of the word 'nefarious...'
It's wicked to misrepresent a broader point by picking out a smaller facet.

Likely that a lot of Sunderland fans aren't that bothered, but there are plenty on here who are.

I asked you to provide proof to your claim, you said you couldn't.
But I answered.

I then noted you haven't asked other posters to provide proof of their claims.

I was asking you due to the fact you were belittling folk questioning you

He's a limited player, no doubt, but he's a decent bottom of the Premier League winger, a player Rafa's worked with before and so on.

Was probably our best player in Benitez's ten games in the Premier League.

So, nothing to say Ashley has put the kibosh on it?

You answered but didn't provide any sory of substance to any of your claims, claims you were passing of as a fact, as per my request.
I did provide substance to my claims, just not proof. In the absence of hard proof ( I mean, beyond a signed letter from Ashley saying "Don't give Benitez any money for transfers", what hard proof could there be?) I provided a pretty compelling argument. I even lampshaded the chink in the claim before following on with my argument, noting that wicked Sunderland fans would focus on that, rather than engaging in mature conversation about the broader point. And lo and behold...

You took exception to my failure to provide hard evidence, yet haven't done the same for your fellow Sunderland fans in this very thread. This suggest either you aren't bothered by this normally, but because it's me, a Newcastle fan, you've chosen to be bothered this time, and therefore you are being hypocritical... or you haven't got around to it yet.

If it's the latter, I apologise and look forward to seeing you pull the others up

Bloody hell - broad use of the word 'wicked!' I'd say Ian Huntley, Myra Hindley, Ed Sheeran, people like that are wicked, inflicting suffering on society. Not people who pick apart a chap who posts far too often on a rival supporters' board, no matter how eloquently.. ;)

Always thought there's a touch of mischief about something "wicked". I don't think @Father Jack Hackett is terrible person (certainly not an Ed Sheeran-level abomination), he's just whiling away some time in the afternoon sparring with someone on a message board.

Fill your squad up with those types of player and there is only one outcome. That is the conundrum that you have now and the reason for the lack of signings and Benitez seemingly getting irksome. Its what did for us!

This is a very good point. See for reference Bruce's transfer window when we let him loose with the Henderson money. Buy several 'squad' players from the lower prem clubs and that's the absolute highest you can aspire to - the arse end of the division.
