Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

You tried to appoint a manager, he very publicly said no, if that was us I wouldn't swallow the takeover story, just saying

6 in a row? when does the past end and become the present?
Yoyo club, simple as that, much like Burnley.
What's the excuse for Benitez going to be when he manages this upcoming seasons relegation? Ashleys fault again?

Correct. If you must spend 55 million to get promoted from the championship and can afford to do it then do so.

But don't throw a hissy fit because Ashley isn't splashing the cash before the window has even officially opened

Simarly , if you only need to spend 5 million to get promoted then do that. It's all relative

If you know your owner is tight fisted it absolutely makes sense to push him into action with public power plays. That's just good management. It's not throwing a hissy fit, it's using whatever currency you have to strengthen your hand.

Had Benitez spent £50m in the summer £20m in winter, failed to get promoted, then demanded even more funds be released, he's deserve criticism. As it stands he was promised money in the summer, he got and spent that, he was promised deals would be made in the January window, that promise wasn't kept so he, rightly, complained. This time he's correctly making sure Ashley (or his cronies) doesn't renege on the agreement again.

So because a manager declined us we decided to sabotage our summer by not trying to get any other managers? Then a couple of weeks later decided to completely u-turn on a decision to not bother getting another manager, and appointing one?

If Grayson spends 40-50 million I'd be dubious about how he would cope in the prem, yes. If we used all our incoming money on players and didn't pay off any of our debt then we won't have learned anything and I'd be worried about the future of the club

Some of the players Rafa bought were for the Championship and the Championship only, others are good enough for the Premier League. He didn't spend £50m on Championship players, because there's no magic portal that players cannot pass through if they've played away at Ipswich in the League on a Tuesday night.

I'd expect Grayson to try and do similar. Buy some experienced lads (McGeady) take a few young lads on loan and take gambles on players from smaller clubs. Maybe fringe players from the Premier League who could do a job in both leagues, or top players from 2nd tier clubs.

We have players able to compete in the bottom reaches of the top flight and we're making moves to sell players who can't.

£5m. I'm just going to go ahead and assume you're using hyperbole for effect.

Scored 9 in a shit relegated side under a shit coach, scored 1 in 2.6 in the Championship when he was not 1st choice.

The market is inflated and ridiculous. Mitrovic is a 22yr old international striker with goals in the Premier League. How much do you think he'd go for, if we're to sell him?
Not £20m you absolute fool ... Niasse banged in a few for Hull in a brief loan spell will Everton get £13m back or £20m

Will they fuck

I agree. The problem seems to be after buying these players that Ashley wants to move them on before spending large amounts on improvements and Benitez instead of selling them is unhappy about it and threatening to leave. In an ideal world a number of these players would have been sold by now and he would have the funds he was promised. For whatever reason that hasn't happened yet

Don't even know why we're bothering if it is as much of a certainty as you suggest tbh without even knowing what we are going to do in the market between now and 31st August.

The Financial year end was June 30th. That is why we didn't sign anyone and we will now sign a few players and move some others on. Nothing to see here.
