No, of course not. As I state, Nigel Pearson isn't as good a manger as Benitez. You don't judge a man solely on a 10 match period, do you. I repeat my question as you've not answered it;
If Allardyce had failed to get the 2 points that saved you from relegation, would you have wanted Di Canio back? Or Advocaat? Or Poyet?
Benitez is a better manager than Pearson, of course he is, he's better than a lot of managers, because he's a good manager and there's a lot of shit out there.
The only thing that stops some Sunderland fans (and some Everton or Man Utd fans) from admitting that, is a deep rooted bias and a fear that by missing an opportunity to have a dig at their rival somehow diminishes their support for their own club. Which is ridiculous.

Don't know. But a team spent more than us and didn't get promoted, it's not just how much money you spend that matters (although it's a good help)

It wasst an exhibition match but let's be honest. They completely lost their heads mid Chelsea game when they conceded the title and never got it back. Their heads were all over the place. Your win at their place earlier in the season was more impressive

What would be worrying for me is the best performance of Rafa's tenure in the prem for you lot was the last game of the season when you were already relegated. It's alarming that before then the performances were just not there.
Potentially a mix of poor quality and a manager not able to motivate.

Course it isn't just about how much is spent. It's all in context. I'm just not sure why there's books being sold on his success when as it stands he's still unproven.
This year will be the test. Especially if he has no money but if he gets none he will probably be away so that way Ashley gets the blame and he can leave relatively unscathed

It's not so much the veracity of your statements, it's that the picture it paints is sufficiently different from reality so as to have me respond to it.
e.g. It wasn't an exhibition match against Spurs. They were still going for 2nd place and the chance to finish above Arsenal, their rivals, for the first time in... I don't know how long. But it better fits your position to misrepresent that game as an exhibition match, thereby robbing it of any value. We didn't play negatively against Aston Villa, but it suits the narrative to misrepresent it that way.
Some Sunderland fans go out of their way to dismiss Benitez's previous accomplishments, some focus on the fact he failed to keep us up, some prefer the "he spent loads" angle. They go to such lengths to try and "prove" he's not a good manager. Stretching the truth, exaggerating the importance of some points and dismissing others entirely to suit their tenuous position.
Yet none will admit that it's because they've let their bias overrule their ability to evaluate.

Surely Villa were already gone and not scrapping at all. They were there for the taking but Rafa had no bottle. Can't wait to see him fall apart again.

Spurs were finished man. Do you honestly think your 5-1 win with 10 men against them was a Benitez inspired performance (completely out of the norm) OR maybe Spurs were demoralised and wanted the season over?
Before that game he'd collected 10 points from 9 games, in which you played Palace, Swansea, Villa, Sunderland & Norwich and were promptly relegated. Other than Man C, Liverpool and second half v Swansea you'd been poor.
There's only one set of fans rewriting history...
