I dont know the total number of players that have played in the premier league since 1992 but i guess its in the multiple of thousands and i would guess that if you matched that number with another group people of similar numbers over the same period of time you would probably get the same numbers of deaths from within that group ...

I do wonder just why this seems to keep happening now. Must be quite a few pros keeled over and died post Vivien Foe.

I can't recall this happening when I first got into football (1992). What about older posters?!

Are some of these modern pros being pushed too far. They're now more like pure athletes who can play football, rather than footballers that mightn't be the fittest. Are some being pushed to within an inch of their lives to try and gain an edge?!

Football athleticism has changed dramatically the last 25 years.. gone has the drinking, smoking and eating shite culture from pre the 90s

Seriously though, I know the game is a lot quicker now than when I was a kid (90's), but I do think a slightly slower pace allowed players to showcase their skills a bit more.

No, the only reason people are posting these pointless 'heartfelt' 'tributes' is football. Nobody here knew him personally as far as I know, nobody will be profoundly affected by his death. I never understand people queuing up to type 'RIP' or paying tribute to someone they never liked and leave messages to people who will never see them.

Of course it's a sad loss for his friends and family, we know that, no point in repeating it over and over and over again. There have been hundreds and thousands of tragic deaths in the last few days, all affecting families and friends. All that sets him apart is he played football. It's not as if he set a shining example to anybody, he had a nasty side to his game and he was a 'convicted' cheat, but at least his family will be left well looked after.

For 7 years many thousands have been within touching distance watching him week in week out. No they may not have known him personally but you build up a bond a relationship even a love affair with players who play for your team. Some people are fucki ng devastated when they leave your club and you're saying it's nothing when one dies

No, I'm not really saying that, I've felt the same when we've lost one of our own, but this is a Sunderland forum and most of the 250+ people who've 'paid their respects' here never had a good word to say about him while he was alive. For once, it's not your fans that I disagree with.

BTW, I was amazed he only ever scored that one goal for you, yet it's a goal that will be remembered by football fans all over the world.

And, yes, I probably am.

I get what you're saying.
There's always a huge outpouring of 'grief' when a footballer passes no matter who he is. The outpouring of emotion when Marc Vivien Foe died was unbelievable.
Btw, how many on here were screaming abuse at CT when this hard man went down like a bag of hammers when scraped by little Sess ??
How many mags have been slating CT for sitting on his hands at ncle for the past 2 seasons when he obvly hasn't been wanted for the first team and wudnt move on ?
Hypocrisy all owa the place.
It is sad, and it is tragic at only 30 but there's plenty go far earlier than 30 and in far worse circumstances.

Come on, part of liking football is we're all part of extended football family. The guy contributed to the game you, me and many thousands other love. Irrespective of who he played for, someone has died at the age of 30 playing football. Surely that can resonate with ya?
