So you're rating him as one of the best strikers in our history on the basis of things he never did in a team he never played in?

Honestly - read up on your club's history. It's great, full of great players, great achievements, great stories, not many of which involved agreeing to see out your contract only if you got a pay rise plus the ability to fuck off for nothing if the team got relegated.

One of the best in our history.
Don't need to read our history, just watch him play

Good penalty record

Was amazing last season, and compared to previous years it was incredible to see such a player. But his head dropped this year so he's a no for me.

Excellent. So you rate him one of the best strikers in our history on the basis of what he might have done in a team he never played in, without any awareness of what you are comparing him with.

Bless.

What are you talking about? Can you not read, I said you just have to watch him play to see how good he is. Why would I need to read up on our history, as a fan I know who's played for us and what they have done

He's been sulking for months.

One of the best strikers in our history? Don't make me laugh. He has scored 34 goals in two and a bit years. By my reckoning, he is in 50th place in our all time top goalscorers.

One of the best strikers in our history.

I don't agree with that at all. Chances have dried up and he snatched at the few that have come his way. He's an on the shoulder striker who is still making runs but feeding off not even scraps. Hes always reliant on a team being able to find a way to get the ball to him in the box but we are completely incapable of doing that. At any stage of his long career that a player like him isn't scoring goals then he would always have that type of 'lazy' criticism levelled at him but its a nonsense. He certainly cares. I believe he's fantastic with the likes of Maja and Asoro. Don't blame him for moving on at this stage of his career and I agree with you that we need a completely fresh team anyway

I've been watching him in every game since he got here. And generally he has done well. And in the last two or three months he has been f***ing shite.

He's nowhere near one of the best strikers in our history. Nowhere near.

Fair enough.

I think he underestimates the impact he has on the rest of the team. I think we have had a problem in recent months where no matter how good a position a player was in, their only thought was 'find Defoe'. Too often he has been moving back into deep positions, too often (IMO) he has been making it clear how pissed off he has been with lack of service and sulking. I think he has played a part in the lack of chances. Obviously the shiteness of his teammates is the bigger part. It's been quite reminiscent of Phillips in 2002-3.

I don't blame him getting frustrated with his useless, gutless team-mates, at all. Nor am I blaming him for us getting relegated. So it may not be lack of effort, or not caring. And I know for a fact he could have gone to West Ham in January but made clear he wanted to stay here. He's a good striker, and clearly a good professional.

But I won't shed a tear when he leaves - we need to move on. He's no saint, he has underperformed since Christmas, he's 35, is choosing to leave, and he's part of a team I want to forget ever existed.

The only player I'll be genuinely gutted to see leave will be Pickford. A bit sad about Watmore too if he left.

Turning on our best player now? Jesus wept!

He owes us bugger all, and has been a breath of fresh air to watch most of the time. He's an employee like the rest of them, of course he's in it for the money! You can still feel fondness for a club, while getting paid and considering your future elsewhere. Jermaine should do what's best for him and his family, and he goes with my blessing, at least.
