Adam Johnson appeal

There's nothing wrong with the way Johnson's sister has acted. She is supporting her family. There's plenty evidence to show why it was a lengthy sentence. No-one is saying he shouldn't be punished. As for increasing everyone's jail sentences that really gonna help society isn't it. You obviously don't believe in forgiveness and rehabilitation.

You are shitting me right? Have a look at the statistics on reoffenders. Im not saying I dont believe in educating and earning the right for forgiveness but bitching about your sentence, when you have pleaded guilty and its barely started tells me you show literally no remorse for your crime.

When did I say I want us to live in a society without no appeals system or justice system, must have missed that

My point is simple if a burglar gets 10 years I can't sympathise with that, because he should have done the crime in the first place.

If a shoplifter gets 5 years no sympathy as same principle.

If someone (anyone) gets 6 years for knowing going with 15 year old no sympathy as should not have done the crime in the first place.

Of course I am for justice and appeal system if proven did not do crime, which is totally different from length of sentence for a crime committed.
You said no decent person would ever contest the length of a prison sentence.

I know what is right and wrong too. So you are saying no-one should ever be able to appeal a sentence? What about miscarriages of justice are you prepared to let them just happen?

Miscarriages of justices I totally agree with you.

Lengths of sentences for crimes somebody did commit is different surely?

Beg to differ mate, I honestly can't sympathise with any sentence for committing a crime serious enough to get a prison sentence, because can't get it round my head round, why somebody could commit a crime that serious.

Maybe it's just the way I have been brought up to believe in right and wrong and not sanctimonious in the least.

Really? What about death by careless driving etc? Possession of drugs?

Some people are in our prisons who haven't set out to hurt anyone at all. They've just been unfortunate.

That isn't the case with AJ, but the idea everyone in prison has somehow committed a serious offence is laughable.

I was taking about the Johnson case when made that reply and still stand by it.

Ok fair enough mate. Just I think I can still be a decent person yet think a sentence on someone is harsh the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Yeah fair enough.

Ok fair enough take that point.

But can't sympathise with a burglar getting 10 years or a rapest getting 20 or a person going with a 15 year old getting 6.

My general point is don't do the crime, if you do tough shit.

Couldn't be because he played for Sunderland could it.

Are you genuinely like honestly genuinely trying to say that my views are based on the fact he used to play for Sunderland and not that he groomed and had some form of sexual interaction with a bairn? Like honestly?

Quite possibly the most retarded thing I have ever read.

Fair enough. It probably comes down to different outlooks on prisons and how good they are at protecting society.

My broad view would be that we have the highest imprisonment rate in Europe, pretty much, and our prison population has more or less doubled in the last 10 or 15 years or so.

The evidence suggests prison is a pretty ineffective way of dealing with many criminals.

Broadly speaking I think some people have a prospect of being broadly rehabilitated and others don't. Most burglars etc. I think can be rehabilitated. In the case of sex offenders there are many who cannot be rehabilitated - the serial paedos, violent rapists etc. They are the ones where 20+ year sentences are in order. In AJ's case, from the evidence I saw before the trial it was clear he was thick as pig shit and had the nuance in offending of someone with an IQ of 20.

My personal view, is that as a society we could have best dealt with his offending by giving him a 2 year sentence, suspended, making him surrender his laptops, phones etc. for inspection, banning him from unsupervised contact with children, confiscating his passport and making him sign the sex offenders register. I think, as a society, we could have prevented him offending and saved ourselves the cost of locking him up. His six year sentence costs us in excess of £120k or so (probably more when you factor in the additional costs due to him being high profile) and that money could be better spent elsewhere.

But I have the broad outlook that I want our prison population halved. So when you're talking about a non-violent sex offender like in AJ's case, where it seemed less pathological and more the result of ignorance and self-entitlement, I think as a society we could have avoided custody. The only thing that makes me think that maybe an initial two or three year sentence may have been warranted is the contempt he showed his victim during proceedings, and the actions of friends/ family members/ the wider public make him seem like a bastard.

It's just most of the mags I hear talking would bring back hanging for him. So forgive me for it crossing my mind.

Nah you are not at all forgiven, I think even allowing that opinion to form in your brain is utterly moronic. He played for Middlesborough and Man City too and England for that matter, do you think fans of those clubs ask themselves the same thing when its being mentioned? Of course not, stop being so precious.

I wasn't asking to be forgiven. I was just stating a fact and other Sunderland fans have said mags they know were saying similar. Your being naive if you think SOME of them haven't.

HOW CAN IT BE A MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE WHEN HE PLEADED f***ing GUILTY
He only pleaded guilty to 2 charges, grooming and sexual contact (the kiss) he pleaded not guilty to sexual contact digital penetration and oral penetration, he was given 5 years for digital penetration and found not guilty of oral, he was appealing the charge he was found guilty of and the length of sentence for it, if you're going to waffle on about this case at least get the facts right.
