All the papers are commenting on it now a few hours after that initial story. One has quotes from Martin Bain.
SAFC chief executive Martin Bain said: “In recent months we have undertaken a detailed review of the club’s entire operation. “It is clear that the business had lost its focus and we now have to ensure that we are better equipped to be able to concentrate on the areas that are key to taking Sunderland AFC forward. “Our infrastructure provides a tremendous platform and it is important that we capitalise on this by channeling our efforts into those areas that will have an impact. “We want to ensure that the football club is in the best possible position to grow stronger, both on and off the field. “The decisions have not been taken lightly. “The internal process required in order to undertake the changes has already commenced and club staff have been advised of the procedures and timescales involved.”
I think we can all agree it was a bizarre post to make.Especially as they were caused whilst at work.
Paolo return confirmedAwful for those involved (assuming they are doing a good job), but if this is what it takes to put the ship right then it HAS to be done and quickly.
I might be alone in thinking it, but Bain seems to have the club sussed form day one and is making some hard, but good decisions for our clubs future. If we go down, it might just calamitous for us though.

Yeah from Short and yourself down to the players - they've been absolutely clueless, but please don't blame the poor souls on just above living-wage wages who have contributed so much for so little.
Thank god the Foundation Of Light is more independent and they will hopefully escape the annihilation of Micky's New Convertible years.
Weasel words to absolve himself and the executive of the mess and the subsequent blood-letting which will now surely follow.
Those three that we bought in January to thinking to appease the fans - their wages would have saved a lot of jobs.
This is cutting your cloth accordingly.
at least the lads had a nice trip to New York
Just out of interest, your mate at the club... what sort of wage is he on? I'm not interested in knowing who he is or what he does, just for an idea of their wage.Sorry "Some very good people are at risk and are very likely to lose their jobs"
Hope that clears things up for you. Getting that email is an horrendous experience. Nothing speculative about that
They have received additional emails to inform them of the level of risk, since the meeting.

One is 35k ish and one is 50k ish
Well isn't that interesting.
Not that that's an affront to ya mates like, hope they get sorted either way.
Can confirm this is wrong - at least for the first leg of the journey - lad I know was on the same flight as them down to London and sat in front of Moyes![]()
Just think, they could have taken on a few coal miners with that. They wadn't dig any coal like but there did used to be a colliery where the SoL is.This. The cost of that trip would have probably kept around 4 or 5 in work for a year
People not looking at it in the sense that these jobs might not be needed?
