Staff Redundancies at SAFC

they could save around 50 low paid jobs for the year by asking the players to give up one weeks wages...... doubt the greedy fuckers would do it, even though staff are losing their jobs because of them.

Why are they greedy? They're shit, there's no doubting that.

The shite lazy arsed players should subsidize the wages of the threatened workers so they can keep there jobs
Even if there's no job there for them? Don't be ridiculous.

True but as PR exercises go that one was ill thought out at best
It wasn't a PR exercise. It was something the manager wanted to do with the players.

People look at it the wrong way. The players weren't being rewarded with a trip to New York. These are very well paid young men who can enjoy a trip to New York whenever they want. This was a team building exercise where they were running about Central Park in the freezing cold. It wasn't a friggin' holiday.

As much as I would like to work at SAFC I'd never do it for this reason. Your job relies on the useless fuckers on the pitch.

Nah it relies on the people running the place and buying those players, and they have nfi what they're doing

This has been in the offing for a while and I'm going to put a slightly alternative slant on this.

The players who've been here a while have a good relationship with the staff that they come into contact with regularly. Can't speak for any of the newer arrivals, but the likes of O'Shea, Seb, Cattermole know most of the staff well and maybe this is also timed to get a reaction from the players to save these people losing their jobs.

In terms of finances, staff (non management) wage savings are just tinkering with the steering on the SAFC Titanic.

They probably have to give statutory 90 day notice of redundancies in the event that we get relegated but it doesn't mean that will happen.

Exactly this. In the event of going down, the club needs to be able to address the financial implications from the day it happens. What Bain is really saying is that the club is starting the consultation period; whether this is precautionary, or that there is now an expectation that we will go down is a different question.

It's disgusting we've had to do this, feel sorry for everyone who has been let go. I wonder if we'll end up closing one of the stores? Didn't we do that last time?

They have not been let go yet. They have to go through this round of notifying people of potential redundancies _ decisions will be taken at the end of the season subject to which league we are in.

Still a sh*t scenario though as I suspect many of those salaries will have little or no impact compared to the players, many of which would need peddling if we fail to survive.

Stand by for the next "rallying cry" to include one of the players saying "we 'll win for the tea/ laundry/shop staff" etc etc......

it will help us run at slightly less of a catastrophic and terrifying financial loss I suppose.

Make an even bigger difference if we can shift some sh*te players who are on 30k a week, amounting to £2.4m a year before tax per player.

I think the point I was trying to make was that instead of getting rid of 20 local jobs why not get rid of 1 fringe player at 30k per week giving you a total saving of £1,560,000 instead

30k is normally quoted as after tax.

Don't we have this same thread about this time of year every season?

I'm sure it's so they've had the statuary notice in case we get relegated, as you say.

Shite news but not unexpected. Unfortunately it's the ones at the bottom of the tree that take the fall whilst the players saunter around in their top cars and want for nowt. Football is a f***ing awful business to be in, if I had money I certainly wouldn't put it into a football club, at any level.

Why bother going to NY then? They could have gone to the Lake Disrict and gone for runs and bike rides every morning - that's more or less all they did in the way of training according to George Honeyman's interview.
