Huddersfield Town

Ive seen them a couple of times on to this season and have been very impressed with the way they play. A high energy, high tempo passing game, very similar to Liverpool.

This is the modern game, it's the most effective type of football played by the top teams. Unfortunately some managers are stuck in the 1990s, including ours.

On current form and play I would predict that Huddersfield will catch both Brighton and Newcastle by the end of the season.

It is upsetting the applecart because they have some from absolutely nowhere. Furthermore, contrary to practical common financial sense, they seem to have a better squad and reserves than all their rivals.

They lost a few points early season as the team was new and not not jelled. The same applies to Newcastle. Brighton went on two blips as they have lots of injuries all season and have hardly been able to field anything like their first XI.

Three teams mostly in it now. Leeds and Reading still waiting in the wings.

Newcastle 4-4-1-1
Brighton 4-4-2
Huddersfield 4-2-3-1

But I expect it will be luck with injuries that will make the difference.

Huddersfield are effectively 3 wins away from overtaking us as their GD is so bad comparatively. If we beat them at their place can count them out. We only need 7 wins out of our last 16 games as that will mean any of the chasing pack will need to win 10 plus depending on how many we actually do win....considering we have won 21 out of 30 I can't see us not getting less than 8 from 16 say

We have 3 key away games starting end of feb...Brighton,Huddersfield and reading away...win 2 out of them 3 and we will be almost there imo

If Huddersfield are as good at Burnley last season it would be W 11 D 5 L 0 = 96 pts.

Key dates:

28/2 Brighton v Newcastle (Tues)
4/3 Huddersfield v Newcastle (Sat)

Both matches will be sell outs and on TV.

The wheels could come off.

To be fair, you were saying exactly the same about Leeds 2 weeks ago, 2 defeats on the trot and it's now someone else. Huddersfield do look good at the moment but they have lost 9 games already and there are too many decent teams for these to put Burnley like runs together IMO.

It is all more in hope than expectation.

Not me. Leeds are not in the same class (decided lack of class all round). Derby seem to have blown any chance of autos. Fulham might be the best pure footballing team. But Leeds are pretenders.

Huddersfield might be more like Watford though. And it may not be their season.

Any team (even Leeds) can put a run together of they avoid injuries. Huddersfield seem to be able to play as well with a few players missing, unlike Brighton.

I see the point though. Huddersfield may have weaknesses, although they look a better team than Burnley last season. Town fans say they had early season difficulties integrating their German defence.

They were top of the league after 11 games after winning 8 in that period. Also got 16 points from first 6 games. It was an 8 game period from mid October to mid December which looks like it will cost them as they only got 5 points from those 8 games (1W 2D 5L)

OK.

Fans seemed to have guessed that it was flash in the pan and they would revert to their customary lower down the league position (because they were a small Yorkshire club compared to perennial Championship clubs Wednesday and Leeds).

If it ends up as close as I think it will be, it might come down to luck with injuries. Once the bad luck sets in, it rarely gets better.

Pundits made the relegated clubs with parachute payments favourites at the beginning of the season as that have a massive bonus to pay a larger squad (even if was comprised of players that got them relegated.)

So many different styles this season in the Champiosnhip, it is hard to tell (apart from the League table) who the most likely teams are?

Huddersfield are above both Newcastle and Brighton in both passing and possession, so they cannot be accused of kick and rush.

I'd have preferred to see Hudds v Man City on telly next week rather than Blackburn v Man U which will be over in half an hour, scandalous decision that.

Also, there's a good chance of three yorkie teams in the playoffs, and an outside chance of four, which would be interesting.
