iv got an 11 week old puppy (unable to go outside for prolonged periods yet as not fully vaccinated) who I'm trying to toilet train to a pad. He has successfully learnt to wee on the pad and walks there voluntarily. He was shitting there originally but of late he won't and will even hold it in when I keep putting him on there. He sniffs around like he is about to do it but just won't drop log.

I have been giving him treats when he pees there and tried to give him treats when he'd curl one out close enough to the pad so I could pick him up and he would drop on the pad. Any tips? Considering buying one of those sprays that attracts them to the pad

Start shitting on the pad yourself and the dog will copy you, but don't do it for too long because you in turn might pick up the dogs bad habits and you'll probably start sniffing peoples arseholes

When he does do it give him a command. I tell mine to be clean. So tgen you can put him on the pad and tell him to do it. Its saves you standing for ages waiting for them to go. Tell him and he will do it.
Mine do it on command.

Guessing you don't have a back garden or a yard? Because even if the dog isn't fully vaccinated it's perfectly safe for it to go outside to do its business. Just watch out for it eating slugs and the like. Although you won't see many of those this time of year.

If you've got a secure garden/yard just put him out there every hour or so, he will soon get used to doing his business out, he will be marking his territory

Stand outside in the pissing rain in the middle of the night till he goes. Reward piss/shit with a nice treat, chicken or hot dog or something.

Great fun at this time of year.

Perseverance. Just keep putting him back on the pad.

Dogs react well to voice and love praise. If you say no sternly when he's attempting to poo elsewhere, then give loads of soft voiced praise when he does it on the pad, then he'll soon work out how to please you. You do feel like a right tit getting excited over a poo mind, especially in the back garden

Aye those days of waiting for him to shit/piss in the cold while repeating the command word...remember those days "fondly"

Mine just used to give me a blank look, I did get a defective one though.

Crate train him/her, how hard it is depends on the breed.
Make sure you get a crate that is not too big or they just shit in that.

We crate trained him for the first week and was working quite well. We then upgraded him to like a play pen which fits his crate and a potty pad plus some room for him to walk around. I think once we introduced the playpen he has started to not like shitting on the pad (he pisses no problem).

I live in an apartment block (Lerds of dogs) and have a communal garden thing there so might start taking him out there but the vet wasn't too keen on it.

Gunna try the spray tonight. My life is far too lenient with him, won't leave him in his crate if he starts wimpering etc. I think she may be the problem
