Moyes would have known exactly what he was getting into and was given the opportunity to build over the long term. He inherited a squad that had been playing very well over the second half of the previous season with only the status of two loanees up in the air. On fairly short notice he augmented the squad with a mix of young players with potential and cheap veterans who he could count on to play a role. I doubt that he expected any of them to have to play a major role right away. But no-one thought Kaboul would be off and no-one foresaw the number and extent of injuries. Defoe (21), PVA (20), Kone (17) and Papy (16) are the only players who have started in more than 2/3 of our matches. Only four others have started in at least ten games. When some of us say that Moyes is hamstrung, this is what we mean - he simply hasn't had enough first team players available in enough games and now ACON is adding to the pressure. We had nine first team players unavailable on Saturday FFS. Even the top teams would struggle to compete with that number of players out. And yet, since the beginning of November we are tied with Bournemouth for 12th overall and remain only 1pt from safety with 17 games to go.

So he paid 13.5m on Ndong, 8m on Papy and 5m on McNair thinking they wouldn't be a big part in our season? Then he's a complete idiot for paying 26m on 3 players who should have been a bit part, in our situation. :lol:And he knew we were short on numbers, but still signed Africans, at least he should have signed good Africans, not just competition for O'Shea.
 
I'm still backing him as until he's gone he's still our manager so needs my support home and away. Not very exciting or controversial, just how it is.

I'd say it was more an educated guess. Just going of the time line of BSA being appointed England manager and moyes to sunderland.

Sure you would agree that talks probably had taken place before BSA had left and moyes had a good idea what his next job was going to be.

I wouldn't say I'm behind him or even particularly against him at the moment. He's doing a bad job IMO but there's no real alternative that would make me want to dash out and sack him, his track record at Everton will help me retain a small fraction of hope but it's dwindling all the time, to be 3-0 down at home to Stoke within 35 minutes simply isn't good enough and it's not the first time this season we have rolled over and died against an average PL side.

No one else with a decent reputation would touch us anyway so we really need to hope Moyes gets his act together very soon because I can't see us getting out of the bottom 3 in a hurry.

Keep digging - you might strike gold at some point and find "facts" to support your argument. Players cost what they cost. No-one said those he bought would play a "bit part" but they weren't all brought in to be starting week in week out. And if you think a player is a long-term acquisition for your club you are hardly going to be swayed by that player's availability for a month. JOS, by the way, was our 4th CB when Papy was brought in - it was Kaboul, Kone, Papy and JOS until Kaboul wanted out.

Or you are. Kone is 27, Kaboul is 31 and JOS is 35. Those were our CBs. Clearly an area where we needed more depth.

Just explaining why he bought a CB, that's all. Doesn't seem out of line for a player with almost 200 appearances in the top flights in France and Germany and who is still young for a CB. If you have a line on better, cheaper options you should become an agent.
