Sunderland shots on target against a title chasing Liverpool side who have lost 1 in the last 22 games in all competitions - 5.

Mags shots on target against a third from bottom Blackburn side who had not won since November when they last played Newcastle - 5.

He spent less than he recouped, so the sums didn't bother me, especially as they're clearly with one thing in mind; promotion. Hence spending £5m on an experienced Championship centreback in case Lascelles and Mbemba aren't up to the challenge. If he'd put us in financial danger through his spending, I may have had concerns, but he hasn't. It's like if you win £200 on the horses you don't mind splashing out buttons on an extra portion of poppadoms that you might not even want.

I dunno how you think we'll have a squad over 30 players? We'll be getting shot of Tiote in this window (most likely) and we'll be selling those players who're already out on loan. Our squad is no bigger than the majority of sides and there's no way we need to sell 12 players. Burnley haven't and look where they are, Boro spent £21m to bring in 11, Hull spent £22m to bring in 7.

We could spent £30m and even then we'd only have broken even thanks to the monies recieved for Sissoko et al. As I said, we'll be selling Tiote, Saivet, Thauvin*, probably de Jong, Vuckic, and maybe Toney as well, which could mean another £15m on top of the £85m we made in the summer.

We're in a solid financial state and were we to go up I'm confident that Benitez would be supported in the transfer window to make sure we stay up. Even though the consensus on here is that there'll need to be an overhaul, it's frankly not true.

Your gain in the transfer market will be offset by Premiership losses for this year. Was it really necessary to spend £60m, regardless of the insane fees for Sissoko & Wijnaldum?

You have 30 players contracted through to 2018, with two current regulars out of contract (Anita & Gouffran) who may be offered new contracts or is happy Rafa happy to release on frees? If they're released and you take away Toney, Good & Armstrong you're still left with 27 players on first team contracts. You may find yourself having to subsidizing the likes of Murphy, Saivet, Thauvin, De Jong, Mbemba, Lazaar, Haidara, Gamez to get them off the books. We know all about this... It also leaves you with 4 first team keepers and 4 centre backs on long term deals. (Not of them argulably strong enough) Plenty of work to do. I'm not sure I'd be trusting Rafa to get it right.

Darlow (2020). Elliot (2020), Sels (2021), Krul (2019), Clark (2021), Dummett (2018), Gamez (2018), Haidara (2018), Hanley (2021), Lascelles (2020), Lazaar (2021), Mbemba (2020), Yedlin (2021), Aarons (2021), Mbabu (2018), Anita (2017), Atsu (Loan), Colback (2019), Diame (2019), Gouffran (2017), Hayden (2021), Ritchie (2021), Shelvey (2021), De Jong (2020), Saivet (2021), Good (2018) Thauvin (2020), Tiote (2017), Gayle (2021), Perez (2021), Mitrovic (2020), Murphy (2018) Armstrong (2018) Toney (2020)

Not really, you lot are quite a compelling psychological puzzle.

I've been trying to find a term that describes an acceptance and repetition of a demonstrably false assertion/declaration within a group. The closest I can find is "Mass Hysteria", but the connotation of that is a screaming horde of lunatics, which I don't believe is helpful. There are a few tropes on here that are accepted as fact e.g. ; Newcastle need to replace at least 1/2 their squad to compete in the Premier League. Newcastle's squad is huge and in receipt of big wages. Newcastle fans will not criticise Benitez.

This is the consensus on here, despite evidence and compelling arguments to the contrary.

Honestly, it's like Americans and their guns. You can point out death rates, you can point out crims stats until you're blue in the face, Gun fans will be wilfully ignorant while reaching for their rifle.

.................and you had an extra 24 hours rest. Which over the course of three days is massive, Liverpool had a tough game against Man City, your lot were rogered by that footballing power house Burnley. Lets keep it in perspective eh?

I think Sima and Myself have led YOUR lot a merry dance this evening. Still only a few pages to go to 20. However, my work here is done.

rafa smiley face.

It's funny you should mention that as there's something quite noticeable whenever you post.

Even when you directly quote other Newcastle supporters, or speak to them, they very rarely, if ever, respond.

It's almost as if they're deliberately ignoring you and seem to avoid you like the plague.

Does this hurt you and can you explain it?

woops my mistake, I though your lot played on friday, not paying attention.

As I said earlier, the three things that you bang on about can only be discussed so much, to my mind its been done and dusted. So aside from the insults there isn't really a whole lot to respond to.

you sent us down.......we won't agree on that
6 in row.........you win congrats
50 million spent...............we recouped way more than that so its a moot point.

does what hurt me? my sides when I laugh? sometimes. Does that count as an explanation also?

Most clubs lose players when they're relegated so Newcastle selling is no surprise.

However most clubs don't spend the amounts Newcastle have, and may spend again this month, in order to come back up.

If Newcastle fail, which I don't think they will, then Benitez will have seriously failed without any excuse.

if we don't get promoted then yes, he would have failed massively

You've either totally ignored or misunderstood the question ....... why do the other Mag posters treat you like a leper?

You've made quite a few assumptions there, for example, you're writing Lazaar off without seeing him play much, ditto Gamez.

I'd imagine we'll build a team around

Darlow Elliott Sels

Yedlin Gamez
Clark Lascelles Mbemba
Dummett Lazaar

Hayden
Shelvey

Ritchie
Aarons
Perez

Armstrong
Gayle
Mitrovic
(18)

Add a few players of quality to that and it should be enough to finish above three other sides.

I'd expect to see the following moved on and given Ashley's record in the market I expect us to get reasonable deals for them, even if the fees are lower than we paid.

Krul
Hanley*
Haidara*
Good
Tiote
Saivet
Thauvin
de Jong
Gouffran
Murphy
Toney

The players I've omitted can be kept as squad filler/utility or sold for all I care. But the point is that the side doesn't need the overhaul some suggest. Again, look at where Burnley are and what they've spent and who they've brought into a Championship side. If we are promoted, we don't need to buy a group of players to have us pushing for top half, we just need to make damned sure we're safe. With Benitez's pragmatic approach we're not going to sign some flighty French wizard, we'll buy sensibly for our needs. As we did in the summer.
*Depends on how much they feature in the 2nd half of the season when they're fit.

Still spouting, very strange. I couldn't be arsed to read it by the way, it's more the volume of each post not the content.

Nobody is really arsed what you say or think. You're on the wrong team's forum for that. The fact you're on a Sunderland one makes you a point and laugh figure of fun, no matter how intelligent you think are or purport to be.

I've always found this defence risible. If nobody cares why do people reply? e.g. I don't care about the James Milner thread so I've not replied in it. I'm sure there are threads in Parsnip about tv shows or gigs or whatever, but I don't care enough about them to reply. So why, when you claim not to care, do you reply? It's contradictory.
