Rafa has got lucky every place he went ... Tough choice: the Spuds of the north or the spuds of the south. I'm guessing he'll stay with the spuds of the north till they realise he's actually not very good.

not sure how many strikers Palace played with but I'm sure their 4th choice striker wasn't playing week in, week out.

It was a figure of speech. It's a fair assessment that a Crystal Palace fan has a greater depth of knowledge on Dwight Gayle than a Sunderland fan, no?

Regarding him being fourth choice, he was managed by the same bloke who played Hayden Mullins and Marlon Harewood over Mascherano and Tevez.

He's done canny but fuck me he's a lucky twat. Goalies hoying the ball at him and refs waiting till he scores to blow time. It's the championship where he'll thrive. He won't at premier level; the standard of defending is woeful in the pub league.

It has a Saddam Housain feel to it. Hero one minute villain the next. Erect the messiah statue then pull it down a few months later. Got a feeling this may turn sour very quickly.

Course he is, that's why he's hit the bar/post several times already this season. Some might say he has to be opportunistic enough to be in those positions to get 'lucky'.

On Sunday for example he could just stood still when Colback hoofed it aimlessly towards Green but Gayle sensed an opportunity.

I said Bear's comment wasn't strictly true and he has his qualities. It wasn't just Pardew who didn't play him regularly, Holloway, Millen, Warnock, Pulis & Pardew wouldn't have faith in him as a lone striker in the PL.

Gets relegated,gets new improved contract,gets millions to bully his way out of league,sniff of interest from elsewhere and hel get another pay rise off the toon or if he leaves. Fair do's marra he was prolific in the lower leagues, got a bit pace, and eye for goal. Do ya think he'll pass muster in the premier league?

He'll struggle to score more than a dozen in the Premier League imo. But if a better striker comes along I think we'll recoup the majority of what we paid for him if not more considering £10-13m is seemingly the going rate for a 'top championship striker'.
