Rafa didn't have enough time to keep them up apparently hes only had 10 games (9 played so far) , won 2 drawn 4 lost 3 = Relegated

Di Canio did it with 7 games - 2 wins 2 draws 3 defeats = Safe
Advocaat did it with 9 games - 3 wins 3 draws 3 defeats = Safe

Fair enough, but both took over when we were out of the relegation zone. PDC didn't improve us much (from 1.0ppg to 1.14ppg) but Wigan tanked so that was enough to keep us safe. Advocaat did secure an improvement in performances but we were helped tremendously by the freefall of Hull. The problem for Benitez is that we were peaking at the wrong time for him :)

Three players? How do you work that out? Vito has cut vital mistakes out, key in staying up. We leaked goals for fun from the fullback positions. Both our fullbacks worked on their positioning and cut out conceding so many goals from their positions, PVA has also scored 5 this season too, Key to surviving. Our back two were panicking under pressure and making mistakes, but Kone and Kaboul have become absolute rocks, key to our survival, Kirchoff has been a revelation, M'Vila pulled out some superb performances in the last couple of games and was head and shoulders above everybody first part of the season, key to our survival. Khazeri has come in and just got better and better getting vital goals in the process. Borini got over his early season slump and brought goals and an assist in the final run in, key to survival. We all know how key Defoe was.

Three people weren't key to our survival. We can thank our team. That's the difference between our team and yours, ours stood up to be counted. They had motivation they didn't have before Sam came. Benitez had the time to install some passion and get a good enough response. Rafa inherited a squad you lot said was better than ours before the window, you then spent 80 million. He had the talent to keep you up no question about it. He just needed to get their heads out of their arse. He failed. Not surprising given he's devoid of any personality. He couldn't inspire a customer to go for something of the specials board let alone a response from your lot.

I didn't say the performance uplift was exclusively due to those three players. I was pointing to the fact that they are Allardyce signings and made a sizeable contribution to your improvement.

Yeah but no but yeah but if Sam had come in earlier we'd probably not have lost five in a row in December

Both managers were stuck with the players they had. If Sam had been here before the window closed we might not have lost five in a row in December. If Benitez had gone to the Mags before the January window closed, who knows? It's all speculation obviously.

Interesting though, that we have made two late season managerial changes (PDC and Advocaat) who have kept us up but have been replaced shortly thereafter while the Mags have made two late season changes (Shearer and Benitez) that have taken them down.

I've never done that on this forum or anywhere else.

And, as I've just said, people were also saying that being unbeaten wouldn't save us, draws would take us down ...... as you've discovered.

Allardyce went for it when the chips were down, Benitez bottle it at Villa and you've paid the price which is a big one.

Nail on head

Tis true. But your squad was more than good enough to avoid relegation. You needed someone to get a response from them. That's how you escape relegation. Still think you'd be safe if you'd given Pearson the job till the end of the season, he'd have lit a rocket up their arse. You'd be talking to Rafa now, planning for PL with his own windows and pre season. Wrong appointment imo, I said it from the off.

If they go behind on Wednesday you'll be able to hear the boo from Sunderland

Rafa will walk out to take a decent job abroad when someone gets the chop in October. Bruce will be their next manager.
I think he'll get bullet by October
Lascelles after all his talk and bluster looked shocking

It's started.
probably got a dogging off a few for it but more will turn. After Reading on Wednesday he has an interesting run of fixtures so needs to turn them round very quick
