Calling SMB veg growers

That's about to change apparently.

I've planted some strawberries, cherry tomatoes, normal tomatoes (died whilst I was on holiday) and I took some seeds out of a supermarket pepper. Google claims that it is nigh on impossible for seeds from supermarket peppers to grow. So I overfilled some small pots with them and there are shit loads of stems grown. Should probably move them out to bigger pots.
This is grown from the seed of the Asda finger chillies.

Weather has been shite this year.
I lost a load of seeds that were planted in the tunnel when it was warm in April - only to lose them when that cold snap came in May. Peas, Broad beans, French beans, sweet corn all went:cry:

But I sowed the peas, French and broad beans direct into the soil ,and all is good. The peas will be ready next week. Another 3 rows of peas sown at intervals are doing good too. I have been eating the broad beans that I planted in October last year, they survived the winter, and were lush.

I have been eating the 1st early potatoes too, very nice. They were a variety called "Sharps express" - only £1 in the poundshop.!! The 2nds and main crop are in flower and doing canny.

The runner beans are about 3 weeks behind, again the weather held them back, but they are climbing nicely now. The French dwarf beans are slow, again the weather has held them back.

The beetroot are nearly ready for picking. The leeks got puddled-in in June, and are doing canny.

I had a problem with my garlic though. They were going great, but suddenly stopped and died-back. Maybe a bit of rust got to them.

The parsnips are flying away, as well as the narkies, & turnips. The summer cabbages (greyhound) are nice, and we've got one for our Sunday dinner today to go along with broccoli and spuds. Next year's purple sprouting broccoli are doing ok. And I have set-away some purple curly Kale for the winter. I have some pumpkins growing in the wee greenhouse, but the aubergines have stopped for some reason.

I still have my onions in the ground as well as the shallots, the leaves are still green and have not died back yet, so too early to lift them.

In the tunnel, I have a few different variety of tomatoes - Tigerella, red plum, sun-dried and red cherry. All are around the 5th truss, and been pollinated and a few tomatoes have shown. All we need now is some hot & sunny weather to ripen them.

canny those like, i have around 90 chilli plants on the go, a mixture of fresno, serano, scotch bonnets, elephant trunk, la bamba, large cherry, etna, habanero, komodo dragons, apaches and probably one or two others, been a slow year but things just starting to happen now with most of them....just picked up the apache plants from asda in the last couple of days, £1.70 a plant and they are loaded with fruits and flowers.

Never tried those, guess i trip to asda is called for.

What's the crack with growing sweetcorn, I didn't think we had the weather for it over here? Does it need a greenhouse or just outside? I just grow stuff that the kids like, keeps them interested so sweetcorn would be a good one for next year.
We're down south so it may be easier, but I've never had any bother and it's absolutely delicious - one of the veg where you most notice the difference from shop bought. Having said that, I haven't got any in this year because the long, cold spring meant it wasn't possible to get the seeds away on time. In fact the fella I get my seedlings from (see my OP) hasn't been able to come up with all of the list because of the cold spring, but still got some lovely brassicas, toms, runners, broad beans and squash coming through.

I prefer to grow flowers over veg because of lack of space.

I had a couple of decent corn cobs last year. Most of the seedlings failed but the couple I put in did do really well. I don't think I live that far from you, so the climate is the same.

This year I have around 16 seedlings in, but they have not been out very long. Everything seems to be going out late, as you say, because of the cold spring. If autumn is mild it should not be a problem.

I had great success with sweet corn in the polytunnel, but I've dared to plant outside this year.

Eaten most of the broad beans. Peas and raspberries still coming in thick and fast, can't keep up !!
Also currants, black & red.

Downside, my spuds (Home Guard) got blight so are all dug up today. Doesn't seem to have reached the actual potatoes tho, so not a disaster. We'll eat them all within a couple of months.

Sweetcorn in foreground, peas behind, last year's leeks left to run to seed as they look so pretty

Fruit beds, strawberries, gooseberries and rhubarb with a currant hedge behind.

Runner bean wigwams with courgettes underneath, sunflower bed behind just starting to flower now

Oh would you look at that. Full on garden porn. Love it.

Advice please: I've got some beautiful Russian Giant sunflowers growing, they're all over six feet now and beginning to flower. One has wilted - I have watered it thoroughly and it's still wilted. Anyone know what might be wrong?

How are your chillies doing? Disapointed with the reapers, huge plants but not a single chilli yet.

Not improved much to be honest, finally have one pod on one of my komodo dragon plants, got an orange hab that's kicking out a few pods mind and a scotch bonnet one that is now kicking out loads in the past week or two, one or two others perking up too but still have a load doing nowt but taking up space.
