He was good at Valencia in 2004 and then has failed in the league in whichever country he has been at since whilst spending £100's of miliions. Take away one night in Istanbul and hes been a very mediocre to poor manager.
I don't think he's been poor, just not what the mags think he is.

Won la Liga in 2002
Got to the Champions League final with Liverpool in 2007
Won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2013

Looks 'mediocre to poor' to me. Yes, he hasn't performed to the level expected recently but you can't brush over other stuff and paint him as 'one night wonder'.

Looks mediocre to me.
2002 I covered he did well, I was saying after 2004.

2007 a cup competition again whilst failing in the league
won europa cup, well done, it wasnt his team and yet again a cup competition.

Napoli and Inter didnt look mediocre I agree, it was abysmal.

He looked mediocre to me as well at the end of last season
Only had 10 games against worse squads on paper and only played 2 top 10 teams, poor bloke never stood a chance.

He picked Steven Taylor over the future England captain Lascelles in a must win game at Southampton.

Failed to muster an attacking threat in a must win game at Villa

World class manager.

You didn't, you said 'in 2004', then after that. You isolated 2004 then discussed post that date.

They finished 3rd in the league in 2007, hardly failing imo.

'It wasn't his team' Surely that should be deserving of more praise then, adapting his playing style to suit players not of his own design?

Winning the Europa league with Chelsea is underperforming.

Sorry, before and including 2004 he did well in the league, failed every other season with teams he managed in the league.

They should have won the league in 2007 til bottling it.

Tbf not his own team is when he does best because when he signs his own players they are f***ing shite, he has bought the odd good player who is already established, but the rest is terrible.

Yet he ends up at you's while other top managers keep on getting top jobs :D. This time last year he was sending Ronaldo a Usb stick with footage of how to lose his marker better ... Wonder if he still has it handy for Dwight Gayle

To little to late...mentally weak team ...no backbone. Just glad he didn't have a chance to buy any players to find if he was any good or not
I wish he did

I am glad Rafa is spending their parachute money. His transfer dealings other than the odd Torres, Mascherano (already established players anyway) have been attrocious.

He tried to get rid of Xabi Alonso for Gareth Barry at Liverpool, lets only hope he doesnt get rid of Jack Colback for a Brentford holding midfielder

Wut. Doing the best he could possibly do in a competition is underperforming?
No ya div, but Chelsea's squad would expect to do well in a competition like that, they're in the Europe's elite competing against clubs who are not on their level of spending power.

And they did, so it's 'par' at worst. Hardly under-performing, they won the thing. Literally the best result he could have achieved.

Tbf I have no idea who Brentford's holding midfielder is but I'd do a straight swap today.

Weve done much more with the same and less time with managers that have a lot less of a pedigree. Dont buy this didnt have enough time he had a good enough squad with the run in he had. Instead he lost to Norwich drew with both us and one of the worst teams the premier league has ever seen. After the swansea citeh, liverpool and palace results they should have destroyed villa but he/they blew it

A lot of the players were/are gutless though with no fight in them. Every time you have survived recently a key component in it has been the work rate and desire of your players, you have that in spades and that wasn't replicated with the majority of our players.
