Terrible news, a great mate and great man has gone....The match will never be the same. We'll all miss you Davy lad
Just seen this as I'm reading the thread from backwards but you are right David the match won't be the same .....he was one of the ones I used to always look for for a quick chat at half time......not because i was a close mate - I wasn't - but he was one of the 'originals' if that makes sense?

I'm getting quite emotional here....

Tragic. Nothing more I can add to that already said on this thread and others.

Keep that red flag flying high, Davey.

RIP.

You're not the only one Col.

the best marra
As Taff said earlier. Legend.

Rip fella. Shite how it takes until someone dies that we speak of how great they were. May god bless your soul lad, and continue flying the flag from up there.

Davey dowell wasn't just a great Sunderland fan he was s great man.

Thoughts to his family and those who knew him much better than me.

Rest in peace.

Whey, Heaven's gained a good 'un with Davey. Another memory springs to mind. Sat with him in the Main Stand - and yes, he did sometimes indulge in balancing on the front ledge to either get to his seat or celebrate a goal.

We were struggling fitfully against a lively Oldham side when from nowhere we came up with some goals, including a winner. As I began celebrating in earnest, Davey turned, smiled and said "Steady on, man!"

To be told by the most enthusiastic and colourful of Sunderland fans to tone it down a bit in the middle of Roker Park was and will always be a medal of honour for me! A top man, and a little bit of my heart has just gone with him, but Davey will live on and on with all of us, thanks to his legacy of what supporting the lads is all about.

He told me at West Brom away last season that if Sunderland don't crack it with Allardyce and kick on to better things then we have no chance.

HAWAY Sunderland man

Devastated by this very sad news 'Legend' can be a very overused words these days but with Davey it summed him up so well. A magnificent modest SAFC fan who always had time for everyone. I 'll always remember seeing him at many an away game and the craic was always quality.
Can't believe I won't be having another SAFC debate with Davey about team selection the players performances views on our manager slagging off the skunks etc etc.

RIP bud you will be a massive miss.
